Subject: Another Alpha Plane question?

Shiollie ( ) posted Mon, 08 December 2003 at 9:18 AM · edited Wed, 06 November 2024 at 10:04 AM

I am trying to create an alpha plane using a blue and glod macaw parrot, but it seems that when the color pic and the black and white pic merge, the result is a very looking dull parrot, it is almost transparent. It is probably something simple that I am not catching.. any help?? Thank you Shiollie

Show what you get please so we can help. And make sure you use PURE white and black for the alpha.

Ok here is the plane being created, you can see the loss of color when the 2 merge. Thank you so much, Shiollie

This might be that your main image has not on a perfectly white background. It is also always important to use a highter resolution for the alpha (the black and white image) to create clean borders. I have never seen such effects, but I cannot imagine another reason. Somebody else?

As Guitta has pointed out, the alpha picture is not pure black and white, but uses shades of grey. Go into your photo editor and change the alpha picture making the grey parrot - black.

You may have a look at this tutorial.

BTW this is an old tutorial for Vue 2 or 3, I don't remember, but the "problem" is the same.

It is very important that the second alpha is totaly black. If it is not, you get the results that you have. The black background allows the ture color to be placed on the alpha plane. As Guitta pointed out, it will also give you sharp clean borders and edges. James

Thank you everyone!! I tried to post a reply but when I hit the "post reply" button it keeps throwing me over to the master forum list, and my post goes floating off into cyberspace (I thought only msn did that :-/ ??) Everyone was right, I was just not seeing the true black and white untill I saw Guitta's tutorial and Sittingblue mentioned that my image had grey in it also. I finally got the results that I wanted! Thank you so much to everyone!! Good thing my motto is "To Live Is To Learn". Shiollie

You can do this in Photo shop as well and I find it much easier to accomplish there is an AVI movie Tutorial at my site if you wish to down load it. That may be helpful. Regards, `shoop http://www.shoop3d.com/tut/tut.html
