I have received kind comments about my wood-grain materials, so I thought some of you might like to see a tut. I'm a slow typist so please be patient. :^)

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

1. Select the object you want to texture and give it the default material "Pine Wood" from the "Simple and Fast" folder. 2. Go into the DTE and turn off component 3 (unless you want holes). 3. Change the colors of the other 2 components to something closer to colors in the real world. Try different ways of combining component 1 and 2. I like "Multiply" because it gives such rich, deep tones. 4. Play with the sizing and orientation of your texture to fit the size and shape of your object. I also like to add a second texture for a bump map. I've made this paricular material reflective and shiny. Reflectivity helps this type of material work well with fake HDRI (see my pic "Atlas (Carry That Weight) for an example. I hope this is helpful. :^) John

Great tut--a really easy way to get some very good results. Thanks a bunch!
