Subject: Shortcuts not working in 8

Xenobug ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 12:12 PM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 1:19 AM

Hi! I'm having some problems with Photoshop 8 and I'm hoping someone here can help. For some reason, my shortcuts aren't working. I'm definitely pressing the right buttons, but they just don't do anyting. My nudge doesn't work either (arrow keys). I know this version of Photoshop has customizable shortcuts and I know how to change them, but I'm wondering if I need to turn them "on" somehow.

Have you used the crack to avoid having to activate - that causes the problems you are having. If so just take it off and activate properly. Some fancy IBM keyboards definitely need their drivers updating for PS8, so if you are using a keyboard with extra keys from any other manufacturer you may want to try updating the drivers for that.

Hi xenobug, what happens is during the "activation" process the operating system switches to a secure input mode and disables the Shift and Option keys and the spacebar. (Disabling these keys prevents other network connections from accessing the keyboard input stream and compromising security.)

Normally, the operating system re-enables the modifier keys after the authentication process is complete. But if you are compromising the "authentication process" in any way, you are disabling the keystroke shortcuts. If you are not and they still don't work, you may want to contact Adobe directly, they can probably walk you through a solution...

sorry not much help...

Thanks for your help! I must have done something wrong during the authentication process. I'll contact Adobe and see what they have to say. Thanks again! -Xenobug

Just got CS ad having the same problems...and also in Quark... What is activating when? Shortcuts overall when the OS loads? Or Just program ones when it launches? There's a crack? LMAO...please...a box of cookies to tell me where it is...and is it a crack...or a patch? Big difference.. I just switched from 9.2 to OS X Panther AND upgraded from 5 then to 7 them to CS quite quickly...the other problem is the old shift+command+d in Quark activates the dock on and off...I changed the shortcuts for the dock...but it only works OUTSIDE of Quark...which is old and runs on Classic. Yeesh...more trouble than its worth this Panther beast I'm thinking... then again..I'm on a Mac...maybe there is no patch/crack for us...which MIGHT make it a Adobe prob across the board...

PLEASE do not ask about/refer to/direct to A CRACK to by-pass the activation process.

It IS NOT the same as a Patch and even if you are the proud owner of a legitimate version of PS, using ANY means to circumvent the "activation process" is NOT acceptable discussion and can be viewed as WAREZ request/assist...

we have a ZERO TOLERANCE here @ rendo and i don't want anyone tossed (banned) because they don't want to play by Adobe's rules.

On a personal note: i HATE the additional hoop-jumps this adds, but if i want to continue to make loads of money using PS as my weapon of choice, i need to bide by the companies EULA.

If you are having difficulty with keyboard shortcuts and have NOT done anything improper to the "activation" process, please contact ADOBE support and or look for update drivers for your keyboard (if it is an "extended/programmable" keyboard).

Sorry....was just trying to clarify which it was... I do happen to own my copy of the entire Adobe CS "suite" so no problems there..

cool zai, i just want to make sure no one gets "too helpful" and offers a crack or a link to one, cause than, more than feelings get hurt, they get "wacked" :(

hope a solution is identified soon and Adobe releases better info for workarounds...

Is that like that "whack a mole" game for kids? lol..seriously..I've found a few more shortcuts to deal with the dock now which has gotten it out of my way, but a lot of problems seem to be Panther, rather than just Photoshop. I may go back to Jaguar for a bit. I did turn down the memory for Photoshop though and that seems to have stopped the "out of memory" issue. The thing would tell me I had no RAM left when it was the only thing open and no docs open. I have a gig of ram...shouldn't be happening. Apparently Panther has a LOT of memory bugs...so I give it 2 weeks before I skin me a cat a of a different color...

There was a message from Chris Cox in the Adobe forums yesterday or Thursday to the effect that memory management with high allocations to PSCS hadn't been fully optimised, resulting in out-of-memory errors.
