I am modeling an epalaut prop for poser and I need to know how I can "connect" these two objects with a "hinge" type mechanism located at the red circled part, so that the bottom object could move back and forth at that point, but still be connected to the upper part? Would it have something to do with a joint parameter? This is just a quick diagram for illustrative purposes - it's not the actual object. Thanks!

Thank you, Sharen! I do remember checking this out one time, but I had forgotten that would do what I want for this, thanks again.

So, it helped? Sharen

I just went and dug through some tutorials that I had printed out at one time, and lo and behold, yours was there! I knew it looked familiar. I am adding a few more things to my model and then I will be ready for that part. Hopefully, if all goes well, I may put it up in free stuff. Thanks and I'll let you know if I get it to work.

There are 2 ways to approach this. One is to use props, parent them together and rotate the part you want. By clicking on 'properties' and 'display origin' you can move the rotating prop's origin to the top (the point it would rotate around). You can also save them to the prop library by selecting 'subset' in the save dialog and checking both pieces. The other way is to make a cr2 figure. A bit more complicated, but not that difficult. Yell if you want to know how. mac

Sharen:

I tried your tutorial, but when I get to the PHI builder part, I'm not quite sure how to arrange the parts in the hierarchy. I basically have Middle, Right and Left. I tried doing it like this:

  1. Middle
    2 Right
    2 Left

But the shoulder pads moved as if they were stuck to the upper shoulder pad part (which I have included with Middle)
I want the Right and Left shoulder pads to move up and down when the figure moves her arms up or down, but independently of the middle part (kind of hinged under the middle part)

Maclean:

I haven't tried you're way yet, but I will just to see which way would work better. Thanks.

In phi builder you can click the text button and arrange your parts accordingly manually. Then you may have to adjust the joint parameters in Poser. Sharen
