Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 03 1:41 pm)
hi dear, there is a big circle on the outside of the figure click then use ur mouse to drag, another way is to goto top menu and goto figure then to use inverse kinematics "known as IK chains". there should be check marks for right and left leg, click them both so there's no check marks beside right and left leg. Once their off then you can click on the hip and move as u wish. :D if u want later u can put back IK chains with the same method as above. I hope this helps some... Seraphira
Thanks to all. I've found the Shift-drag method PhilC offered works best. RReynolds' suggestion was less consistent. In the scene I'm currently working, which contains the Woodland Realms Play Set, numerous trees and other static props, a Millenium Cat, and ten Songbirds (56 Meg all together), the Play Set moved no matter what was selected when I dragged from the tool icon, unless I pressed shift simultaneously. The only problem then was that the cursor disappeared so I had no immediate feedback on the movement. With the huge scene the response of the object was delayed. I thought the Play Set moved because it was at the top of the list but when I tried the same thing on another less complex scene a static wall prop moved unless I pressed shift. The wall was well down in the list. (Poser ProPack) Any way, thanks again.

PhilC "if you hold down the shift key it locks your selection preventing accidental selection of another scene item." Good grief! How have I used Poser all this time without knowing that?!! I finally gave up and started doing most changes using the dials 8~ sound of head smacking against desktop Thank you, Phil, for taking the time to mention this useful tidbit :-)
Michael "when I tried the same thing on another less complex scene a static wall prop moved unless I pressed shift. The wall was well down in the list." AH-HA! Looks like a variation on Poser's mysterious bug where internally it thinks one item is selected, even though it shows to the user that a different item is selected. I had only seen this happen when the latter item had just been loaded - it appears selected, but turning dials or applying a pose may affect whatever had been the PREVIOUSLY selected item. I'm curious: had you recently manipulated the static wall prop?

Is there an easy, dependable way to move a figure using the mouse? Usually clicking on it selects a particular body part. I've found, at least on some characters, moving the hip gets the right results, but this changes the rotation center. Trying to grab the "body" circle usually results in selecting an object behind the figure. I can use the dials, but often the desired move is in two or three axes which gets very complicated with the dials, and dial moves tend to be much too large. Thanks.
