For the moment, I have only a limited selection of my books shelved ... someday, the rest will be also. I cleared odds and ends at the top of a bookcase for these and decided to share a visual here. I know that the flash glare is objectionable -- the easiest way for me to fix that will be to bring in some of my studio lights. -- Or wait for a day that is not overcast. A question ... when I post the finished image to the Galleries, would it be overkill to post the names of books and/or names of the artists? MGD

i can relate to this... luv books... could never have enough shelves for them... i see a few here i'd like to paw through... as to your question... i can read the titles here just fine but i was wondering... do you index & label your own books like i see some of these are or will we have to call out the library police! :]

i see a few here i'd like to paw through... Oh... which ones, cynlee? > do you index & label your own books like i see some of > these are or will we have to call out the library police! :] You're right. Thanks for reminding me about that. Those were discarded from a college library and about to be thrown away when a friend retrieved them and gave them to me. As to the question of label/index ... no, it would bore me to tears to do that. My method is to group the books by category and then within that either chronologically or by author. Some categories near the group pictured ... History or Philosophy of the Middle ages; History of Technology; Celtic History + Ornamentation (interlace); History of food/historic recipes; History of Theater (Chaucer to Shakespeare); History of Fashion; History of Music/Dance; History of Art (in addition to those in this picture); Herbs, Herbalism, Medical practice; 25 Screen plays; an entire bookcase of computer stuff; odds and ends like Grays Anatomy and the DSM IV. ... Oh yeah, and 2 shelves of SF and fantasy ... in that bookcase. Aren't you glad you asked? LOL MGD

@cynlee > doesn't everyone have a Gray's Anatomy? i do OK ... and the DSM IV? > duerer There's a story lurking behind that book on the shelf ... Some time ago, I bought some Renaissance Clothing from Moresca while I was at the Maryland RenFaire -- 2 square necked shirts with embroidery tape front and back; a 15th C. surcoat. As I drove home, without even having a specific image in mind, I wanted to search Google images for Albrecht Durer -- within the first 80 thumbnails, I found his "Self Portrait at age 26" -- the shirt in the painting was a close match to the shirts just purchased. As to the book ... earlier this year while at an event called Market Day at Birka and dressed as you see here, I saw "Albrecht Durer (Masters of German Art Series) by Anja-Franziska Eichler, Albrecht Durer -- of course I bought it. you look quite handsome in your Renaissance attire! with an interesting Durer story... cheers! & no, i don't have the "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" but i do have Robbins Textbook of Pathology with Clinical Applications & a PDR... hope that will suffice :]

MGD ( ) posted Wed, 31 March 2004 at 6:27 PM

Thank you very much and cheers to you ... and to all of this forum, as well. You sure have the books you need. MGD

@firestorm ronesh, how did you get way up there? ...just a bit ago... i made a comment in the gallery under a pic that had several already, hit submit & my comment went to first! weird goings-on tonight :] oh, the gourds, i grew a bunch of them last summer & wanted to try making something out of them sure... let's see what you got :]

Misha883 ( ) posted Wed, 31 March 2004 at 8:37 PM

Yes, definitely the guy teaching the class at Pensic XXX. [In the DSM IV I'm sure there is a whole section devoted to those poor unfortunates who insist on putting all their books in line. Dusted even!]

MGD ( ) posted Wed, 31 March 2004 at 10:11 PM

@Misha883 I'm happy to hear that you are able to recognize me now when my garb is Italian Ren (more or less) instead of what I was wearing when I gave that class: The Feileadh Mor (Great Kilt). Same cup then and now. In any case, Well met! BTW, if you lost your handout for that class, I could send you a copy. Re: DSM IV ... you might be thinking of OCD ... about which my Psych professor in the early 70's said, "In the trade, we refer to them as Obsessive Repulsives." LOL MGD

I am not a medievalist as one can guess... but I have to comment here because my comment there (The Gallery) appeared above others who commented earlier too. Has it all gone base over Ur-anus????? Or are the first really the last?

@cynlee - Just look for Pennsic -- the next one is Pennsic XXXIII I did find a photo album for Pennsic XXX: http://www.pennsic.net/p30pics.html If you Google for Pennsic, you will see about 29,000 hits; and for Pennsic XXX, about 900 hits. As to classes there, Pennsic XXX had about 800 classes offered; Pennsic XXXII had about 900 offered. @addiek - Hmmmm ... medievalist or not, you have been drawn into this conversation ... LOL

addiek ( ) posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 7:50 AM

The Celtic Medieval Tardis... Oh NO!! C'mon the jig's up! It's YOU O MGD tampering with the time-space continuum! This idle banter is just a plot to drive us into another dimension transposed from your frontal lobe. I see it all now! AND ... It's not a pretty sight... A cruel April Fool's Day vortex communication visualisation. Haha fooled you... I've been reading comics whilst watching my screen.

firestorm ( ) posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 12:19 PM

hi, yep that was my third try at getting the size right...lol. most books are discount books, meant to be damaged but if you look you can find good ones. femme fatale...it's a book of portraits of current female actors/models/singers dressed and photographed in period(?) dress. from 1900 to 2000. some interesting portraits here.

....ahhh it's nice looking at all these books -- my problem is that I've moved too much over the years - and these suckers are heavy! --- so I always ended up selling them - or giving them away ( after going thru so much trouble to find and buy them )-- but now, I'm cool with it -- don't need a huge library -- same with DVD's and CD's --- just pared to essence - those few you must have! --- I feel a lot lighter!....can't take'm with you in the end anyway!..........but , don't get me wrong -- I absolutely LOVE books!

cynlee ( ) posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 3:17 PM

you should see my record collection! (yes, as in LP) :]

unstrung65 ( ) posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 3:34 PM

Cindy - ......one day I arrived home to find someone had broken in
-- stole my stereo - tv - and 200 record albums ( they left the
jazz and classical and took the rock! LOL ! ) -- I re -aquired! ---
a few years later the upstairs neighbors let their washing machine
overflow --- flooded my apt and destroyed another batch ( including
my prized Ventures "Walk Don't Run " album )---- but surprizingly I
quickly got over it --- realized I don't have to OWN these things
-- they're out there if you need 'm..........but I do miss my
Ventures lp....> tear

cynlee ( ) posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 3:40 PM

that's tough :( guess the records were meant to be... i realize i don't need all this stuff... reminds me of the George Carlin's bit on "Stuff"! worth a listen :]
