Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 11 12:18 am)
Poser 4 does run very slow in classic with panther, but you're right it should be okay in )S 9 boot. So get more ram. Poser 5 doesn't run as fast as poser 4 used to run in jaguar BTW. I was quite disappointed, but there are other compensations like dynamic clothes. Love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
Geez, I haven't ran Poser PPP since I upgraded to Poser 5. I upgraded just so I wouldn't have to mess with Classic. You might consider it.

I got the 128MB size from the Apple website but I should have said that that was the minimum. Thanks to all. Dan, as far as memory it's using the default. SO... should i up it or will Virtual memory compensate. But i still don't know why 9.2 won't keep it stable it ran fine on 256 before. Or ...well screw it i'll just get more memory and poser 5, then i'll cry about something else..being poor.
I'm still questioning choice for going to Poser5 in search of INCREASED stability. Unless you mean the ability to run in OS10.3 native. Virtual memory is a poor substitute for something like Poser. You'll slow down the program too much to be comfortable. RAM, even in my cash-strapped opinion, is cheaper than time spent struggling with poorly-running software. I finally got around to getting the 9.2.2 upgrade. I haven't noticed any change in Poser yet but I'll keep you posted if you care.
rawolf - I'd give it a try, the worst you'll get is more out of mem errors. I agree with nomouse, VM works poorly with an app like Poser. Poser 5 has worked really well for me under 10.2 and 10.3 (except for it being really slow. I had more crashes with P4PP under 9.2.6 then I do with P5OSX. Don't have a clue as to why it worked before, but memory issues may be one of the reasons CL doesn't support P4 under OSX. Best; Dan
So p5 still suffers from bugs on osx 10.3 and isn't good purchase if i want stability? I increased the memory for the app. on 9.2 (forgot that i did that the last time it was installed) it works ok now.... but poser4 is the only app. (next to the mac converter & installer) that run in classic/9.2 all my other apps. (photoshop etc..)are osx. Honestly would p5 be a recommended purchase since i don't really use 9.2. Do they make a mac converter for osx or does p5 recognize certain files and do it?
I still run everything through mac converter in case I want to use P4 for something, but I have poser 5. It's quite slow in panther but good in other ways. I may need more than the 1 gig of ram that I've got and it's only seeing one of my two 500mghz dual processors. apparently processor power and ram is what makes speed differences in poser. Love esther

The bugs in Poser 5 are really minor and I'd certainly rather run P5 then P4 under Classic. See the link above for MartinC's comments on Maconverter for OSX. This is an older post - things may have changed since CL was aquired by E-frontier. P5OSX does conform to the PC format except for reading thumbnails (you get the shruging guy) - this, to me, is the worst bug in P5. -DanThis site uses cookies to deliver the best experience. Weird thing happened after i installed osx panther... poser 4 (which runs slow in classic anyway) quits 90% of the time (render or add character it doesn't matter) I guessed it might do so due to poser 4 not being recommended for use in classic. So started up in os 9.2 (this i'm real worried about)..same deal only less of a % of quits (got to pull off a render or 2). I uninstalled then installed again but it still acts up. ???@#%$! Gonna get more ram to see if it helps, it's been on my to do list for 2 years, I'm at the bare min. of (a 256 meg ram factory installed) RAM gonna get a 512 soon .Time for poser 5?
