Hi all,

Some time ago, there was a discussion on transferring morphs from one Unimesh character to another.

In point 4 of this thread, pdxjims outlines how to transfer morphs between Unimesh characters (e.g. from V3 to David) when the required injection channel doesnt exist in the target figure.

I tried this. What I wanted to do was to transfer a smile morph from the V3 Smiles Delight package by DAZ to David. These morphs are injection morphs. I did the following :

(1) I applied one of the Smiles Delight injection morphs to the baseline V3 (i.e. no morphs).
(2) Set the dial for this morph to 1.
(3) Saved the morph as a morph target to V3's head.
(4) Re-applied the morph target to a new baseline V3.
(5) Saved this as a new Vic3 character (i.e. new CR2).
(6) Went into Morph Manager (v4), and loaded the new Smiley V3 character.

This is where the wheels fell off. When I expanded "Morph Targets" under head for Smiley V3, it showed all of the standard morph channels (even though I hadn't applied them). Further, the new morph target that I had saved with the new CR2 did NOT show up.

Can someone advise me how to resolve this problem ?

Thanks in advance.

regards,
Andrew

I'm not familiar with the Smile Delight morph. I'm assuming that it uses one of the empty morph channels in V3. Try this: Load V3 SR2 in Poser. Inject the Smiles Delight morph that you want. Save the character to the library as V3-Smiley. In Morph Manager, load V3-Smiley on one side, and David in the other. Go to the V3 head morphs and find the smile morph that you'd injected early. Copy that morph to David. Save David as David-Smiley. Open up David-Smiley in Poser. The morph and morph info should be there for you so all you need to do is turn the morph dial. Hope this helps, Cres

Hi Cres, Thanks for replying. What you have instructed me to do is basically what I did. The problem started when I opened up V3-Smiley in Morph Manager - it showed up all of the other channels (which I did not apply), but there did not seem to be the new morph target that I had created. The only difference was that I saved the morph as a morph target prior to creating V3-smiley. regards, Andrew

I'm guessing that Morph Manager is showing the internal name of the morph instead of the name you see on the dials. If you open up the Smile Delight INJ file in a text editing program (like Notepad), you should see some lines similar to: readScript ":Runtime:libraries:!DAZ:StephPetite:EthnicHeads:ChanVis:Unhide.African1.pz2" Look at the name of what's being unhidden (in this case African2) and see if that shows up in Morph Manager. It may have a name like PBMDC_01 or PBMCC_01. (For the life of me, I can't remember what the difference is between those.) If you see that, then that's what needs to be moved over in Morph Manager. Hope this helps, Cres

Mathman, Crescent is right. Morphmanager is displaying the internal name of the morph, rather than the dial name. I just got the pack to see if I could reproduce your problem (I'd wanted it anyway, just to transfer the smiles). I did exactly what you did, and there was no dial channel listed for the morph. I then looked in the delta file to see what the internal name was, copied that, and it worked fine. The Open Smile morphs on the set corrospond are as follows: PBMCC_##, where ## is the Open Smile number. So youd' transfer PBMCC_01 for the OpenSmile01 morph. THe SmileClose morphs start at 26, so PBMCC_26 would be what you'd transfer for CloseSmile01. Here's David with V3's CloseSmile01 applied.

Mathman, Something nagged me after I did the transfer. I seemed to remeber that David already has those channels available, so instead of using the copy to V3 first method, you can just inject them into David, so long as you haven't loaded something else in the same channel name. However, for things like HDCeltic, you have to use the Morphmanager method, since no corrsponding channel exists in the David base. Ain't this confusing sometimes? Ah, the joys of injection posing! Hope this helps! Jim

Many thanks, Jim. You are right, I certainly find this confusing - although I think I would benefit from looking a bit more into the technicalities behind injection posing. So, do you know of any semi-technical documents which go into a bit of depth with the theory behind this ? BTW, I love the smile that you have put on David's face, it really gives him character :) regards, Andrew

Andrew, Thanks for your question! I REALLY like the morph pack. THe first thing I did when I transfered them was split them into right and left channels to see what kind of effects I got. They're great! A little of one on the right, a little of another on the left, and I get a nice, live expression. Maybe some of my portraits won't look so boding now (grin).

Jim and Crescent, Success at last !! .... thanks for your help :) regards, Andrew

This would only work for SP3 and D3 because they are based off V3, right? Could you use the same technique to transfer morphs from D3 to M3?

pdxjims ( ) posted Tue, 26 October 2004 at 1:17 PM

Sorry Papa, THe only way to transfer the morphs between two figures that aren't grouped seperatly is with a program of some kind. That said, Dodger HAS converted all the David morphs to Seth as a free download (I think it's still available). It's believe the pack is available to anyone who's bought a male Aeon figure. You can load the David morphs to Seth, then use this method to transfer them to M3. Of course, you have to have an Aeon male figure, and you have to have the David morphs. With every new Aeon figure release, a new injection script is released that applies to all the Aeon figures of a group type, adding any new morphs that have become available. I actually like David a lot better than the other male figures, and used the Dodger Technology to convert the M3, Freak, and Puck morphs I like to a V3 base and use them on David. I've got a version of David with all the Brom morphs, M3 Muscle morph, Bishohen morphs, Freak and Puck head morphs loaded. It also has V3 male morphs, a She-Freak morph, V3 heads, and now the smile pack applied. It's one HUMONGOUS .cr2 file, but I've got a powerful machine with LOTS of memory. David does look cool though mixing and matching morphs. I really like to use Bishohen combined with the Brom morphs.

Where is dodger's freestuff?

pdxjims ( ) posted Tue, 26 October 2004 at 5:00 PM

Papa, Dodger's Aeon freebies are limited to Aeon customers, so I can't give out the download information. If you've bought an Aeon figure, you should have access to the Aeon Extras forum at PoserPro's, and the link is there.
