I'm fairly new here and would like to upload a photo but can't find 'my gallery' or how to set it up. Would greatly appreciate instructions. Kora

HEY - Looks Great! Congrats on an excellent initial post to the gallery! The only thing I would recommend (and - it's hard for me to say anything about anybody else's work...but I've had a couple of beers - so here goes. These are my opinions ONLY) The background looks a bit busy - two ways to get around that: 1. a slightly larger aperture - yes, it's gonna give you less depth of field, but careful alignment of the subject with the focal plane will give you the maximum depth with minimum depth of field. 2: Longer lens from further away - this will knock the background out of focus in a heartbeat....as well as portions of your subject if not careful. To give an idea - I've taken the liberty to play with the image in photoshop - roughly simulates a longer lens or more shallow depth of field.

To Wolfsnap, you forgot the trick I do often. Just use a flash, it will black out the background if its not to close to your subject. Thats the way I do it,so that the buttie or flower are all you see.

Apophis906: One possibility, but the problem with shooting something like this with a flash....is that it looks like it was shot with a flash. I prefer the natural effect of the natural light. I also have never really been a fan of black backgrounds in shots like these - looks like they were shot in a studio. I prefer a muttled, natural background. (just my opinion, though)
