Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 30 8:14 pm)
if you would run a business of your own you would for surely understand why bringing out the next version is always a high priority. that of course doesnt mean you stop development on past products or support existing clients, thats just as important, but just because you keep on supporting and improving doesnt mean you can slip on releasing the new version thats where a big part of the constant increase of revenue lies. anyhow: e.ons new module philosophy is spot on, nice move and interesting news. guess everyone that asked for a standalone tree editor got it :)
The new VuePro sounds fantastic! I can hardly wait. The modules are a great idea.

Cool news, I like this whole modular approach. I'm not interested in Vue Pro really, but love the idea to make my own trees/plants with the Botanica module. I may also get the DeepAccess module too, since I so use Poser & Vue a lot. As an old Bryce user, I'm getting more and more excited about Vue and I feel sorry for those who hang on to Bryce, they miss out so much great stuff. Bryce is getting behind more and more these days.

You may want read the whole thing carefully, before you get to excited.... There will be 3 version now, Esprit, Pro Studio and Infinite and to me it sounds like that the Pro Studio isn't like the current Pro at all. If I'm correct the Pro Studio is Vue 5 + Botanica, DeepAccess, LightTune and Mover 5. That means no wind and other currect Pro features at all, it's more like an in between version. Quote: "Botanica, DeepAccess, LightTune and Mover 5 will be available for purchase separately or as a bundle. The bundle, including Vue 5 Esprit together with all four modules will be known as "Vue 5 Esprit Pro Studio" " Also the pricing seems odd somehow. If one buys the Vue Esprit - Studio pro version it's $399, while the sidegrade for current Vue 5 users is $199. If one recently has bought Vue 5 for $249 and one buys the bundle to upgrade to Studio Pro, one will pay $199 for the bundle. This totals $448..... But I'm sure they will work out something for this payung to much for this group of people.... ( no, I'm not one of them, I upgraded Vue 5 from Vue 4, just found this a bit odd ).

Hey DLK, if I read this right, watch out that there will be 3 products now:
V5 Esprit
V5 Pro Studio (V5 Esprit + all modules)
V5 Infinite (formerly Pro)
So the $199 will be from V5 Esprit to Pro Studio, OR from V5 Pro Studio to V5 Infinite.
Upgrading from Esprit to Infinite will be $399.
Anyway, It's a smart move from e-on, and I think i'll grab Botanica first :).
I'm not comfortable with LightTune:
The LightTune module will give Vue 5 Esprit users access to more advanced lighting features, such as selective lighting, shadow maps, custom lighting profiles
What could I do with that. Help! Pro users needed here :^D
Selective Lighting is the feature I use the most from Vue Pro. It allows you to select which objects are affected by a light source. You can apply a light to selected objects, or to all objects except the ones selected. It is a great way to control the light in your scene. For example, you can add hilights to the face of a character without changing the light for the rest of the body. For the pricing, you read that correctly. The modules are an option for people who want only that particular functionnality. If you want all the modules, it is better (cheaper) to buy Vue Pro (now Bue Infinite) instead.
Mover doesn't factor into it at all, it's just one of the "modules". Infinate is a whole separate product line (really it's Vue 5 Pro), you can't upgrade from a module to the full line (think of it as purchasing a character pack, if you have Victoria 3 by Daz it doesn't entitle you to a reduced rate on upgrading from Poser 4 to Poser 5) but you CAN upgrade from Vue 5 Esprit to Vue 5 Infinate. Also, as far as I know Mover 5 is not bundled with Vue 5 Infinate (unless they changed something for the new Infinate version that they didn't do for Vue 4 Pro). Aggh!!, too many options! While I'm sure it's going to be confusing overall at first, I'm excited!!, I'm definately grabbing the deepaccess and botanical modules as I can, I do tons of imports from autocad and to not have that linked functionality (that's available in pro) has always bothered me, since it means you have to reimport and retexture an object if you update the model geometry in an outside program.
From what I do gather, Infinite does have Mover 5 included Quote: "Vue 5 Infinite including all features above, plus a lot more $599" I don't think you should compare the infinite version to the current pro version to much, E-On is trying to create a whole new product line.

good to know (on the mover thing), I think the infinate version is closer to the current Pro version than the Pro studio version is to the current Pro version though. Since the Pro studio is kinduv a midgrade version between the current Pro and Esprit lines, it has the modules for the plant editor, model updater, and extra lighting options, but it doesn't have the export features or a lot of the other minor Pro extras that Vue 4 Pro has. We'll know more I'm sure once the feature list for Vue 5 Infinate actually comes out, but I wouldn't be too hopeful for a massive feature jump from Vue 4 Pro to Vue 5 Infinate (as Steve Bell has already stated many times on the forum that the new Vue 5 Pro will be Vue 5 Esprit with all of Vue 4 Pro's features and a few extra goodies).
Here some more info given by E-On on the vue forum: "I would like to clarify one thing, though. Vue 5 Pro Studio is indeed a "souped up" version of Vue 5 Esprit. Vue 5 Infinite (the successor to Vue 4 Professional) is an entirely different product altogether." Very interesting.

Can't wait to see what else pops up in the 'Infinite' or the version formerly known as Vue 4 Pro...I'm watching the E-on website!
And don't forget, there may likely be an Anime Cel Shader in there too- maybe as another module. I am absolutely certain Vue 5 (and up) can support excellent Manga Cartoon and Anime Cel Shade rendering modes- and this would bring over to Vue many more Poser users worldwide who are interested in Cartoon-Anime rendering. It would be a very SMART marketing move for E-on, I think... (Now- if they would only add in Poser POSING dials so that Poser models could be tweaked directly in Vue---THAT would be absolutely ideal!)
It sounds like "DeepAccess" would be a MUST HAVE for Poser-Vue users. Combining textures with the object or scene files would be great. Plus- it sounds like DeepAccess probably will automatically update Poser POSES inside Vue 5- if you have both programs open at the same time. THAT would be a REAL time saver!
Yes, that's correct, if deep access works the same as the feature it describes that's available in Vue 4 Pro it will update poses, geometry and textures when you change them in the source program, or you can choose to update just the geometry and not the textures (but not the other way around at the moment).
yeah i was thinking the same tihng veritas and tiny :) being able to pose the characters directly in vue infinite would realy make it stand out, but im confident that that is a future we will not see happening anytime soon :) anyway im very pleased with e.ons statement, a modular approach like this is spot on and gives everyone the ability to purchase the features they need and can afford.
I have discussed the Poser POSING dials with E-on- it MIGHT happen- but they apparently can't go too far with it- as they have licensing agreements with Curious Labs that might prevent it. It seems to me the way they MIGHT get around this is the fact that Vue MUST find the Poser EXE in order to load a Poser file. So- if it finds the Poser.exe- then that means the Vue user already HAS a Poser license! So this would prevent what Curious Labs might fear- that a Vue user would have full access to Poser models WITHOUT having to own Poser. I am hoping Vue can study this request carefully as it would be a HUGE BOOST for Vue among the Poser community! It is VERY CLEAR that Poser ready models (most primarily by DAZ of course- NOT Curious Labs) are driving the software sales of many applications. This is why the makers of Mojo World have announced that THEY will be supporting direct Poser model imports in a future release of Mojo World 3. I think E-on should not let their advantage slip- and go for the next phase- Poser Model POSING adjustments in future versions of Vue 5 and "Infinite". This HAS to be the next logical step- and yet it can still remain within E-on's SDK deal with Curious Labs. And besides- the other REALITY is that DAZ is already DOING THIS with Poser models in DAZ STUDIO! And DAZ doesn't even require the Poser.exe varification step...
i hear you Veritas, a perfect integration of poser models is a big +, and the more serious(as in commercial)you get with your scenerey/vue usage the more you would benefit from improvements in that area, and it would be a big selling point generaly speaking aswell. And as you yourself said, if vue can find the exe of a valid poser install that should still be in lines with the agreement with curious labs but then again, noone of us knows exactly what e.on has commited to, but im also positive that being able to pose poser models directly inside vue would strenghten both curious labs and e.on. As you mentionted you can already pose poser models with daz studio which is totally free of charge so im hoping that theres a big chance that this will happen since it would benefit both companies. well lets wait and see just what e.on does make with the infinite brand.
This sounds really good and I really hope that this version includes a poser dials within Vue. It would be really nice to be able move poser charaters arms and such for the pose with out using poser. The big question is what difference between Infinite version and existing Vue 4 Pro and also the Vue 5 Pro studio. For $149, I definely planing on getting it.
The biggest missed opportunity here is by DAZ! Because they purchased Bryce, DAZ put themselves in direct competition with Vue, Mojo World, etc. -Since DAZ's primary business, which is making 3D models and selling them, and NOT 3D software (which they still seem to be struggling with)- they missed a big chance to make the DAZ file format a new 3D Model standard. DAZ could have offered the DAZ import format free to E-On, Pandromedia, etc. and this could have made it extremely popular, useful, and totally to DAZ's advantage in selling model products... Instead, by buying a dinosaur of a renderer with Bryce, they have clearly driven everyone away and into the Poser format camp. And to make Bryce even up to speed, DAZ has to spend even more money trying to catch up with Vue, Mojo World, etc. (And what if the makers of Terragen were to sign up for a Curious Labs SDK Import kit?). Of course, DAZ may eventually convince these other 3D app makers to support the DAZ file import format- but they have missed a major chance, I think, to make it a standard NOW. Making DAZ Studio as a free intro program might well be in DAZ's interest, but buying Bryce was a big strategic mistake, I think...
Very interesting, lets say Daz cameup with .Daz file format and provided makers of 3d packages with easly free access and most importantly register daz users can get there poser formated files in the daz format. If so then poser will be a lost and Daz studio will be come the new standard. As far as Bryce, I got it thought special that Daz had and I was not impressed.. I thought its interface is clunky. It may be me, but it sits dormant on my main machine. As for as Mojoworld, it has one thing that seperates it from the rest.. it can render entire worlds and allow others to explore it. For me Vue and Mojoworld both have there specific purposes along with Lightwave 8 for my modelling.
