Subject: Prop making.. in Poser?

SyddyKitty ( ) posted Sat, 12 March 2005 at 11:55 PM ยท edited Sun, 12 January 2025 at 1:36 AM

I'm user Poser Pro Pack. How would I go about making props from the primitives? How about posable props, such as doors? How would I make a texture that's been specificly designed around the prop itself, rather than some seemless one meant for anything? I'd like to make some sort of house... but I have no acess to quality 3D programs..... :/ And I'm running ona WEAK computer that can barely handle my poser.

Dr. geep has some good tuts on using the poser primitives to create items. And uv mapper origonal is the best program I have seen (free) for creating custom texture map templates. I'm running an old pII 416 Mgz with 300megs ram, I know all about weak lol :)

close enough to me :p AMD athlong at 400MHz (ancient).. my ram is adequate.. 512.. but nothing great. I'll look into it, thanks.

Dr. Geep has done a very good tutorial on building a house within Poser, and has also done tutorials on doors, windows, and stuff. The House is what started me off on the techniques to build that background prop in the picture. The container in the foreground is made from cylinder primitives. (And it looks like it's been left where it shouldn't.) The figure is Little_Dragon's Furrette 2.0, which works well with limited resources, being much simpler than any Victoria.

Poser 5 does let you do a lot more with the look of a surface, especially displacement maps. That's how the detail on the walls is added.

But don't rule out using one of the free 3D modelling programs such as Anim8or or Wings. They're pretty small programs.

UVmapper Classic is available for free. Just setting up a model with a UV map makes a huge difference to how even a seamless texture renders. In-Poser techniques use tools such as the magnet deformer, and the initial UV map gets distorted.

The demo version of UVmapper Pro, even as limited as it is, can make a big difference when you're editing the actual texture, giving you a quick look at the texture on the model.

Didn't realize I had to search the FORUMS though... figured I'd need to search tutorials.. since that makes sense.

That's obviously not the tutorial section I was refering to. Your picture assumes I'm one that visits the forums to do things aside from posting questions. Naturally, I went to the normally viewed tutorials at the top of the main page, with all of the other links. That's all, this thread can stop now.
