Well I've hit the memory wall before in rendering - but never in attempting to save a scene. I've saved scenes as big as this or bigger in Poser 5. Anyone else come across this problem. Thats Mike (Original) & Vicky 3 - 2, dynamic hair and dynamic cloth. I'm on an AMD XP 3200+, 1 gig Ram

i do not have poser 6 but if you look back through the forum this is a on going topic that is supposedly being fixed with the next update release, go back a few pages ta find more info hon

Lovely scene! I don't have poser 6 either. But I did want to compliment you on the scene. I found sometimes in Poser 5 when I ran out of memory, if I shut down my firewall, closed up my chat programs, and disconnected myself from the net and turned off my virus scanner, I was able to get more memory.

"...if you look back through the forum this is a on going topic that is supposedly being fixed with the next update release..." Thats nice to know, wonder why they did not fix it back in Poser 4 or 5? This bug has been with poser so long that I think I would miss it if they fixed it!

I haven't seen that actual message since Poser 4 - really caught me by surprise. I've since tried to save the figures individualy and I can save the man OK - but get the out of memory issue with the girl. So I'm scratching my head here - Stuck between a rock and a hard place - contiue on with the scene and hope it renders or lose the whole thing - think I will cry.....

If you've saved the man o.k. you could try deleting him from the scene and seeing if that frees up memory enough to save the rest. If that doesn't work start deleting things like the clothes, hair etc, until you (hopefully) have enough memory to save the important stuff. At worse don't forget to make a pose dot for the female figure. Also you could try and just do a copy paste of her dial settings into a regular old text document. Unzipped

Save the figures into the library. Don't save a scene when this happens. You will just save a blank pz3

Totally OT: May I ask what hair you're using on her? :)

tastiger ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 4:46 AM

That is RDNA Pre-Raphelite Hair :) This has turned out to be a real pain - ended up taking what I did manage to save into P5 - worked on it there - now to render in P6 .... Grrrr...

:) Thanks, one of the rare instances where the hair follows the pose can't go unnoticed!

Actually it doesn't - well it sort of does, but not nearly enough - I can tell you I had to week the settings a fair bit to get the hair to fall back like that.

It seems when the hair was made it wasn't envisaged that the figure would ever be "upside down".

I found that by calculating the frames on the hair with the supplied settings it still sat pretty much in the style it was made with not a real lot of gravity effect. I had to go into the negative settings on the "Pull Down" dial to get it sitting "naturally".

Anway - above is where it is at now - still a lot of tweaking to go - so consider it a WIP. But it should give you an idea of the finished look. The biggest hassle is setting up the animation so as the skirt drapes over the guy's arm and doesn't cross it at any time.

It's certainly teaching me enough about Dynamics :)

Good stuff, looks like there's an actualy story behind this image worth hearing. Keep posting your WIPs. Glad to see you got past your memory problems... Unzipped

tastiger ( ) posted Thu, 12 May 2005 at 3:28 PM

Actually Unzipped, I'm sorry I didn't start taking screen shots from the beginning with this one as it could turn out to be bit of a tutorial in the long run, as I am really having to think before each step as far as dynamics are concerned. Before this I have only attempted dynamic cloth with one figure and perhaps a prop - never with two figures interacting. In the past I most likely would have dumped the project and moved on to something simplier, but with the couple of positive comments made so far is encouraging me to press on with the project and really see what P6 can do. I must admit too that after coming straight from a First Place in the Best Digital Art Catergory at the recent Denver Starfest sort of adds a little enthusiasm to one's work as well:)

Thanks for all the detailed info tastiger, I am also finding dynamic cloth much easier with P6 than with P5 and have used it considerably already but have always been afraid of the hair room. Now this has made me want to experiment with that too! And congrats on placing first :)

Yeah well I would like to have been informed as a potential customer by curious labs that poser 6 had problems with it before I purchased it, I noticed they said NOTHING until the word got out the product was faulty.

Going back to p5 .....

Ok above is where I am now, I really am not happy about the event horizon on the gate, so that still needs some work, be interested to get any ideas on that (may start a new thread as water has always been hard to do.

Also any feedback / suggestions on lights, backdrop - general will be welcomed....
