Subject: OT: How do you pronounce your username? hehe

byAnton ( ) posted Tue, 26 July 2005 at 11:36 AM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 7:38 PM

I always find usernames intersing. FOr years I have been pronouncing Carolly's user names as "haus--ka-door" and recently reallized it is pronounced "Hawks-daughter". I prenounced Pdxjims as "pad-jicks-ums" Don't ask mme why and realize now is it "P-D-x-Jims" Mine is easy but my last name is Kisiel, pronounced like "whistle" but with a "K". lol SO how is your usernames pronounced.

Well, my user name is pretty simple but last name is another thing. Most people pronounce mine as Cloot or clod...seems simple to me...it's Clout prounounced like cloud with a t.

Great thread Anton - next step would be to inquire what does your last name mean.

Vi-li-an
("Vi" like just "V", "li" like in "lily", "an" like in "banana" - it's difficult to find a word in English in which "an" pronounces similar to Polish).
I'm a RPG player for 7 years now and Vilian was my 3rd or 4th character ever created. She was my fav. She still is. I had to kill her after three years of playing because Game Master hadn't enough time for GM-ing anymore :( Edited to add: Vilian was created for a gift-game session on my 17th birthday. Maybe that's why I liked her so much.

odeathoflife - 'O' -as in the letter- death of life. It is a song I wrote when I was about 16. Half a life ago, it is really 'complete death of life' but that was too long for my yahoo email so I changed the complete to a sphere representing the complete, and since there is no sphere on the keyboard it is an o.

Grrrl is pronounced like girl with a little roll on the r :o) And I thought Kisiel rhymed with diesel as well.

MistDragon is pretty straight-forward, but I always have mispronounciations of my last name, (June) Maillet. I get mallet, mail-it, maul-it, and how the hell do I pronouce this?! It's actually pronounced Mah-let, and once in a while a keener will say it in proper french, My-yay, which apparenlty means armourer or something? Cool thread!

Hey JohnRickardJR, you think you've got problem's? Take a look at what I got lumbered with!! Same story...sort of. When I signd up there must have been some sort of problem with the site??? I shit you not I must have tried 7 / 8 differant nick's and password combo's and they were ALL taken!! In the end i just got fed up and put butter as 'user'thinking theres no way THAT'S taken, and I was right so now i'm stuck with it unless I go make another email address and start again?? Then I'll have to use both names or lose my 'Purchases'page. 'Wish you could just change the user name!

Well, I'm maclean, pronounced 'maclayne'. Please, please, never 'mackleen'!!! (Damn those toothpaste ads!) It's actually my middle name, but as a scottish photographer in italy, I adopted it as a surname. The italians all expected me to be mac-something, not davidson. Anyway, quite a few of my ancestors on the maclean side were all famous (as pipers), so why not try too? mac

Tas - Tiger, An obscure reference to an extinct???? animal from my State of origin. The Thylacine, also known as the Tasmanian Tiger (Because of it's striped back) or the Marsupial Wolf....Sort of like a dog but with a pouch - they were hunted to extinction in the early part of the 20th Century. Although there have been reports of sightings the last known member of this species died in 1934 at the Hobart zoo. Here endeth today's lesson - tomorrow we shall look at that other strange Australian animal - the Platypus! Cease David Attenborough mode.

I've never been good at finding a good username and always had problems addressing someone as "something or another" so I wanted to use my real given name. BUT, cedillas are not accepted and if I write my name without it, it is pronounced FRANK-OAZ -- OUACH!!! Written like it is supposed to be FRANISE, it is pronounced FRANSS-OAZ but I know no English speaking person who is able to pronounce the AN part correctly. So I settled for my nickname FRANCE but when I first registered here, it was already taken (although I've never read any message from another France) so I used my middle initials (Marie Isabelle) and it ended up as FRANCE-M-I (Francemi). My real surname (ROY) means KING in English. And I also thought Kiesel was pronounced like Diesel. ;o)
