Trying to get my main gun turret to rotate in one piece...all objects in red are in a family (purple)...then in one group (named).

I am trying to do an animation where the main turret is rotating on an axis.
I can get it to rotate where needed, but things come apart at that point.

The main part of the gattling gun either moves to the side...or everything comes unhinged when rotating.

Any ideas on what to do?...thanks! Mark

I see lots of origin handles there. I believe that every thing rotating must have the origin handles at the same point. Maybe you could take the object into uv mapper and group everything as one there and assign materials so you do not have to do this in Bryce.

  1. Group all parts of the gatling gun and group them in one group. 2. Make a Cylinder and put it where your roataing point is apply a texture that can't be seen or just hide it beneath the geometry. 3. Go to object attributes and make the cylinder the parent of the group then when you want to rotate the group rotate the cylinder not the group. 3. Now you can make the body of the bot the parent of the cylinder so when you move the body everything goes with it. I hope this helps some.

You could make the parent "dummy" object hidden in attributes. Then you don't have to worry about it being seen or anything no matter where you put it. Done it before for door hinges, axles, and wheel pivots.

Impressive spider gun you're working on. Like danno said, in that picture you've got everything selected, not the group. (you can tell because of the orgin handles and the empty attribute boxes) I strongly recomend using a dummy object set to 'hidden' for controling a group since Bryce will sometimes forget it's a group if you manipulate it's origin. like dann-o and paul said. xenic101
