Subject: Why does Poser 6 break non-P6 characters ???

stahlratte ( ) posted Wed, 07 September 2005 at 9:05 PM · edited Sat, 03 August 2024 at 5:30 AM

Here is my Nellie character posed in PP/P5:

And here is exactly the same pose applied in Poser 6 :

And to confirm that it is a JP issue, here is Jessi imported and posed in P5:

All her other joints are broken, too, especially the thighs.

So obviously Poser 6 handles the same Joint Parameters different than all previous Poser versions.
This of course makes all Poser 6 content unusable outside P6, and some (or most?) non-Poser 6 content that works perfectly fine in PP/P5 becomes unusuable in Poser 6.

Just for the record, Jessi doesnt bend properly in DAZ-Studio, too, but at least here eyeballs stay attached to the head.

Anyone else has noticed this ?

Hmmm.

  • opens Jessi's character file and studies the head joints * Weird joint angles. No wonder her eyes became dislodged. Anyone know what "algorithm 0" and "algorithm 1" do?

doesn't the Poser 6 content updater address this issue with new files....

I think they are related to AdamT of CGTalk. Either that or you've accidentally replaced some of Poser's dll files with Aphex Twin mp3s...

"and some (or most?) non-Poser 6 content that works perfectly fine in PP/P5 becomes unusuable in Poser 6. " I'm working in P6 exclusively with P5/PP content, and I find no prob whatsoever.

O_o I've never ever had this problem, and I've been useing P6 for some months now. With Poser 3, 4 and 5 content, as well as Poser 6 of course. I'd say there's something else wrong here. Perhaps an overwritten dll as R_Hatch suggests? I'd check it at least. This isn't right.

Can't explain the problem, but just for the record I've been using P6 since it appeared, with all my old stuff from P4 and P5, and not had any problems.

Content Advisory! This message contains nudity

The joint parameters of certain figures seem to have enough tolerance left so that they still work in Poser 6.
(Although it still has to be checked if they dont work still BETTER in PP/P5.

So Judy and Don obviously belong to that group that still works, but look what Poser 6 does to NEA:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

And NEA is based on Posette and works perfectly fine in PP/P5 and DAZ Studio.

It wasnt even me who discovered this, but someone else reported that my Nellie charcter didnt work in Poser 6.

Also why else if not because of different JP handling would Jessi NOT WORK in PP/P5 and DAZ Studio ???
If my Poser 6 would be "broken", she still should work perfectly fine in the older versions, shouldnt she ?

Looks like Poser 6 was optimized to work best with Poser 6 content and nothing else.

I guess in a not too far future Poser will finally go proprietary.

It would be really nice if one of the Poser Gurus could run some tests to verify my observations.

In the meantime, Ill guess Ill have replace Jessi with her stunt double Jacky for any P5/PP work:

Which figure is jacky and when will it be available for free? :)

Indoda ( ) posted Thu, 08 September 2005 at 9:53 AM

I've had the same problems with some of Poser Worlds clothing. Fits fine in P5 but on P6 the shoulders/neck are moved off to either the left or right when conformed at 0 pose.

The important thing is not to stop questioning.

I really don't know what's wrong with your Poser 6 - or your Nea. I can't make her look like that, no matter what I try ... Here's my NEA. in Poser 6 SP1.

And in full figure. The weird blobs are just to circumvent the nudity clause here. It's the Poser ball bacause I didn't want to bother with finding clothes she could fit. It doesn't cover any odd bend though.

Thanks for the pics, ernyoka, but its not just NEA:

Here is straight unmodified Posette with nothing but the head set to Twist = -40 and SideSide = -40:

And as I said, if it my Poser would be somehow "broken", why does Jessi show the same problems when imprted to PP/P5 ?

Ah! With those settings I COULD recreate it! Weird. This is the same PZ3 importet to Poser 5 btw. Clearly there IS a problem. That's gotta be fixed! Has anyone notified E-frontier?

hmmm...the eye problem in P4 would be a hierarcy problem and the problem on the neck looks like the twist joint is wrong... Dork's default cr2 had a simiral problem after a value of twist on the neck,I've fixed that on Domus... I guess this is not any help anyway... :^) *stahlratte Nellie is lovely!!! pitklad

diolma ( ) posted Thu, 08 September 2005 at 5:16 PM

Hmmm... I've had a similar problem with P6 when using Laura (at least I think it was her).. Everything was fine until I scaled her hands down, then spikes started appearing everywhere. No problem doing the same in P5. Using P6 + SR1. So there seems to be a screw-up... Cheers, Diolma

I don't have anything intelegible to say other than that I use the DonEyes props for many of my figures but with my own texture.
