I thought you may be interested in this pic. Whilst it is not very interesting in itself it goes well with a quote you put on your image. "The sound of water escaping from mill-dams, etc., willows, old rotten planks, slimy posts, and brickwork. Those scenes made me a painter and I am grateful." --John Constable This photograph was taken along the path that John Constable used to walk to school everyday between East Bergholt and Dedham and shows some of the willow trees he was referring to in the quote. They have been pollarded for many years possibly centuries, which gives them the strange knarled look.

And every one said, 'If we only live,
We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

And another showing Flatford Mill one of the mills owned by John Constable's father. My posting of yesterday - the photograph was taken from the spot John Constable must have stood in when he painted The Haywain. The view looks a little different because rising sea levels have made it necessary to build up the banks on the far side blocking some of the view across the fields. The cottage shown is Willy Lotts cottage also featured in many Constable works.

Thanks for posting these Richard and providing us with some extra background. It is alway interesting to find out more about the people who's quotes I use, especially almost firsthand like this. :)
