Subject: A Tale Of Woe

Alas - even I, who thought I had a relatively bullet proof system/plan have fallen into despair. In the 2 year span that I have spent acquiring software, characters, textures, etc., either purchased or free; I thought that saving them in my stand alone hard drive would be sufficient. This was not to be. While away visiting friends, a break in occurred and my complete system was vanquished from my abode. All of my DAZ, Poser, Bryce and other accessory data installed; not to be mine any longer. Somehow, the older extra machine that I had stashed away in the back of my closet survived the skullduggery. Also, I still have my original software disks (they seemed to not be interested in these, which were also stashed away) - otherwise - I'd be completely out of this picture for some time. I guess the most depressing thing is the amount of time compiling these models, and organizing all of the files, is just beyond causing me to fall into the brink of madness.
Now that my financial status is at it's worst - I am asking any and all who feel my pain - if you feel in a giving mood - I would be eternally grateful. Even just to get my V3 morphs back would be something. Lastly, I'm keeping a sharp eye out for my system in the wanted ads, and local pawn shops - in the hopes that if it turns up - I can avenge this travesty (unfortunately without cutting off the feet and castrating the evil scum who did this). To you all here, a happy holiday and God bless.

  1. I decided to purchase Poser 6 to try to soften the blow of my adversaries. Question, I have now also downloaded the latest version of DAZ. If I am to begin loading content for DAZ and Poser 6, anyone have any interesting strategies as to where is the most advantageous place to insert the files? My initial experience with DAZ, is quite good, however, the file placement for both DAZ and P6 seems to be quite crucial. Any assistance in this realm is also quite appreciated.

Most stores will let you reset your downloads, at DAZ and PoserPros it's automatic via a link, I think RDNA and Renderosity let you download at any time until you've had your three goes (after which you have to request a reset). Poser prefers the injection files (the Runtimelibraries!DAZ folder or its equivalent) to be in the default Runtime, though P6 is less fussy than P5 - otherwise you can use the same external Runtimes for each. Just make sure you turn External binary morph targets off in Poser's Edit>General preferences>Miscellaneous tab as D|S is variable in its ability to handle them.

Hurrah - there is some semblance of justice and light in this world of darkness. Yes, so far DAZ is working with me to reload my past purchases. I will try Renderosity next. My main question in the second thread here - would be, do I load my content into DAZ or P6 - or into a separate area and use the library functions in both programs to point to them? Or do I have to make a decision to stick with one platform or another? Still working - and thanks so much for the helpful hints.

You can put your content in external Runtimes and link from both applications. I have folders called Animals, Clothes, Hair, Monsters, People, Plants, Props and Scenes, each with a Runtime in it: other people split by genre (Fanatsy, SF, Modern) or figure (Victoria 3, James, Koshini) - use whatever system you fancy (or none). As I said, the only possible issues I know of are making sure Poser doesn't use External Binary Morph targets until their import into D|S is definitely fixed, and possibly putting the Delta and ChanVis files for injectable morphs (things like Runtimelibraries!DAZ) in the main Poser Runtime.

Thank you so much for your assistance RHaseltine, I have tried a combination of file structures that I am mostly pleased with so far. Only drag is that some older poser stuff - doesn't agree with the new poser structures, as well as definetely not with DS - but such is life.

I HAVE TO SAY THAT AFTER THE LOSS OF ALL OF MY MATERIALS - I have regained the majority of them through the good people at DAZ, Poser Pros (didn't know they were DAZ now too) and not to mention Renderosity! Thanks GUARIE for your help and great models!!!

Now if anyone knows how to find those MAYA X, maya hair models that I (and apparently a great deal of others) enjoyed ... I see them in huge quantities. Anyone know what happened to them? Please advise.

In the left sidebar there are a list of categories - click the numbers under Hair to get the pages with the different models.

Thanks again!!! You know what - I visited that site - but the numbers were a little obscure - and I left it without locating them. If you ever need assistance that I can provide - please inquire! Robert
