Subject: Major Poser Crash Problem With Poser

fls13 ( ) posted Tue, 10 January 2006 at 7:55 PM · edited Thu, 26 December 2024 at 4:23 AM

After installing xp service pack 2, Poser crashes on me whenever I try to do anything in the parameter dials. I have already re-installed it and both P6 and the service packs. I have the same problem with P5, which is still installed on my HD.

This apparently happened with others, as I saw someone mention the same problem at another site, but that thread is no longer available. :O(

Well now, P5 is working fine, but 6 still crashes when I try to do anything in the parameter dials. Can you believe it. 5 more stable than 6? Help!!!

Try updating your OpenGL drivers. If that doesn't help try using the SreeD display mode.

Tried both. No luck. :O(

OK try this. Open the prefs and set The UI and Document to "Launch to Factory State" Exit and restart. Without opening a scene, see if it behaves now.

It crashes when I hit the OK button on the general preferences dialog box.

SP2 is the spawn of Satans mamma.I installed it and get a dozen or so different progs and games telling me "cannot find entry point" errors upon start up.There all .dll errors.Had to uninstall Bryce entirely. There is a list of known progs to have problems over at Microsux website, but i dont recall Poser being on that list. But SP2 is hell for sure.Good luck.

I've had XP Pro SP2 on 3 machines and have had to take it off again - too many .dll errors. I'd remove it and go back to SP1 if it were me.

Well, I did try to go back to the most recent restore point and was told it couldn't be done. Any other ways to do it? Thanks, Bill. :O(

Sp2 trashed my previous computer's XP build when I loaded it. It wouldn't boot anymore. It would go into a "boot loop". There was no repairing it. I had to FORMAT: C . I rebuilt the XP load INCLUDING Sp2, and then had to reload everything else. Took a whole weekend, and lots of swearing. That was 14 months ago, and that computer has had NO problems since. (My daughter has it.) I found out later that it was the presence of an old SCSI driver in my build that caused the SP2 install to trash my build.

It's ridiculous. I called Microsoft today, and got the sp 2 uninstalled (there were missing files, so I couldn't follow the "knowledge base" instructions. Still buggy and now other apps don't work. Think I'll just make sure I have everything I want properly backed up and re-install xp from scratch. Thanks for your help everybody.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. Re-build the hard drive. The slick thing with Sp2, is that it won't LET you install bad drivers without asking you about it first. So, when you re-install your apps, it'll let you know of any serious incompatibilities.

Well, be warned everyone. Neither Poser 6 OR 5 were ever buggy for me until this. Stay away from XP service pack 2. The XP re-install did work but what a time consuming nightmare.
