Subject: Smart proped prop...

Ok, I'm smart proping one prop to another. This works fine as long as I only use one of the main prop in the scene. Does anyone know how I can make a smart prop smarter? Basically I want to make the smart prop work for any one of possibly several of the main props in a scene. Does this make sense? Any ideas out there?? Thanks, --Naylin

There's no direct way to do it, but there are some indirect tricks. Maybe the easiest trick: Let's say you want several people to handle a book, giving it to each other at various times. You'd bring in a copy of the book for each person, adjust it to fit in the hand, and parent it to the hand. Then you use visibility to make the transfers. Hide all the books except the one you want to see; at the frame when Joe hands the book to Mary, hide Joe's book and make Mary's book visible.

However, maybe I didn't understand what you wanted... If you just want to have a book that fits in each person's hand, so you can attach it easily in any scene, youdon't need any special tricks. Bring in a copy of the book for each person, parent it to the hand and adjust, then save the copy as a smart prop. As long as you give each new Prop entry a different name, you can then attach it to the correct Figure any time you want.

I always thought that, provided you selected the parent (or the figure the parent belongs to, in the case of a character) first, then the smart prop would automatically parent itself to the right place? So if you have more than one example of the parent prop in the scene, select the one you want the child to be parented to before clicking on the smart prop in the library. jonthecelt
