Well I got a silly piece of junk mail the other day with a resin castle clock advetised on it. Well I am always inspired by anything relating to fantasy or medievil. I've tried to make bits and peices of castles before, but this ad had some great details that inspired me more than usual. This little spire (lack of a better word to describe it) unfortunatly is already 4.5 megs. I'm working on how to decrease the poly count without losing the quality. There's a program out there that is very expensive to let me do this. I just can not afford at this time, so I have to figure this one out without it's benefit. Anyway I had great fun and am quite pleased on how it's progressing. I plan to add a lot more little detials like better windows and doors. And figure out if I can get away with using transparency maps for window cutouts. Though that is at best sketchy but will greatly reduce the poly count. Enjoy my little picture. James

Looking good James ... Haven't actually tried to build a spire like that .. What program are you using?

Very nice job! I like the brick texture too. That wouldn't be my dark leather dragon texture would it? Just wondering.

Yes mater of fact T3W it is. I had to throw in a figure or two, and what better than a Dragon. But I found out that I did have any. So I downloaded that tex yesterday. Thanks!! There weren't many available, and yours was by far the best. Ghost, I'm using a combination of programs (Well they're really one in the same tecnically). Infini-D and Carrara. Infini-D does a much better job of percise modeling, ala their full vector editing similar to Adobe Illustrator. Carrara has it too but does not allow simple things like snap to grid/guides, guides, and nudging. I really only brought it into Carrara to save it as an obj. I hope they fix Carrara soon. They really screwed things up when they combined Infini-D and RayDream to come up with a fairly sad excuse called Carrara. But I'm hopeing on a major update someday so they might get things right. But that's besides the point. To get the curved walls with cutouts for windows and doors, required a lot of extra polys. But with a little extra planning and extra peices (lower poys) I should be able to get the size down to something less forboding. James

James .. Only worked with Infini-d once or twice and didn't like it but I am not much of a modeller. Have RDS 5 which I mostly use for morphs S Not sure how to help. I would try to do it in Bryce S

Looks like the tower in the free stuff? I don't think so. Though that is very nice, this is completly different. Here's another version with more detail, but still around 5 megs. James

J. I have a poly count reduction app.It imports/exports 3ds, but isn't the best. It's poly reduction give realtime visual feedback tho. I can reduce for you, but you will need to remap it again & piece back together the separate objects. It doesn't export grouped or mapped 3ds objects. Pack

James, this is the most detailed and finely wrought 3d castle tower I have seen to date. The texturing especially is superb. I love the verdigris roof! If Keith Parkinson did Poser, he would produce something like this, I think.

This is just a delightful and beautiful tower! A VERY fine thing. Kudos for overcoming your program's shortcomings, and here's hoping you can tighten up the model successfully. i love the trees in the first pic, too. Very nice all around.

James, if you wish, I could take your castle into 3d Studio Max, and run it through the mesh optimizer in there. It is one of the best on the market, and should be able to considerable cut down the file size. If you wish me to do so, just let me know.

You know this might sound strange, but this looks more like a tower for a miniatures wargame than a real tower. Not quite sure why, but to me it does. I love it, BTW.
