Subject: Terrain import trouble

I'm a new Vue Infinite user, I would like to say a BIG hallo to all the forum user. My first post is about the trouble I get when I try to import a terrain made with World Machine and saved as .raw The loading attempt result in a Vue "hang", I get the importing progress bar but then nothing, I must kill Vue... The same happen using .raw files exported from Terragen in both Intel and Motorola .raw format. I wonder about the best format to use for importing terrain build with other generator. Thanking in advance for any advice.

Welcome to the world of Vue, and to this forum! I normally use BMP format, and bring them in via the "Picture" option of the terrain editor. This means that you only get 8 bit accuracy rather than 16 bit, but you can often work-around this.

I use Terragen. There is a small freebie program called TerraPainter - www.kokpeter.dds.nl/TerraPainter/index.htm - that opens Terragen terrain files and saves them as .bmp files. These work beautifully in the Vue Terrain Editor. Lin

Thanks all for the replies. Reading the Vue manual I've realized that using File > Import > .raw files is the best way to import terrain data images. The right way is to generate a terrain, resize it to the same size as the one made in World Machine and then use the Picture icon to load the WM terrain saved as PovRay-TGA. This way allow loading 16bit data without problem.
