I'm pretty sure P6 will work without it. I usually use the SREED display instead of OpenGL, and IIRC, SREED is about the same as the preview mode in previous versions of Poser.

Well like I said, Khai, I did buy a nice card once, but I couldn't get it to work. I tried every which way, but the damn computer wouldn't even detect its presence. I tried it in a friend's computer and it worked, so it wasn't the card at fault. Possibly my AGP slot is just screwed up, I don't know. But I seem to be stuck with what I have, anyway. I don't have the knowledge or the money to do anything more extensive to my computer, so I'll have to make do. I just need to know if it's siufficient to run P6. I'm not interested in fancy previews anyway, I just want the added lighting and material capabilities.
My computer can't do Open GL and Poser works ok for me.

I just reinstalled Poser6 after many months of a previous setup, and only just realised there was an OpenGL feature. :-D
Maybe I saw it on the last install and have since forgotten, but this time a dialog came up offering the option. Perhaps the difference is that between then and now I have installed a GeForce* in my PC that can actually do OpenGL.

The preview window definitely responds faster using OpenGL over Sree3D in Poser6 (even faster in Bryce5.1), but the old Sree still isn't too bad.

Remnants of that old ants' nest that was in there a while back? In which case maybe "hosed out" is the answer. ;-)
I use Sree3d mode and works fine for me. The only thing that I'm working on is getting a faster memory for now - say 512 MB. I agree with you x2000 on the support thing. I rarely use anything OpenGL, plus when I use P6 with that mode, it reads so funny while working on Perspective [the criss-cross tear in clothes and the eyes popping out of the characters - yikes!!] I use Rage Ultra 128 as a graphics card {I think} I hope that helps ;-) jlovesart2

I think the worst thing about D/S is the impossibility of disabling the OpenGL preview mode. However I've tried the program, but these little black squares bother me too much. And in difference with Poser, you can disable it only for render but not for preview, so you can't work properly if your vcard isn't an OpenGL one :( Okay. I know it. I must upgrade my vcard. I need a upper card if I work with 3D. It's in my wishlist. But not today

xantor: REALLY? You're not kidding me, right? Because that's weird! I don't know, I can't imagine what else the problem would be, but I can't even get D|S to open! I've never even seen the interface except in other people's screenshots. Same with the other two programs (3D World coverdisc freebies).
My last computer had poor OGL support, but this one is actually even worse. I used to be able to use the OGL view in Bryce 5, even if it was slow. But now it just crashes the program (runs fine otherwise). I haven't even bothered considering B5.5, I know DAZ has added more OGL junk (and not much else that I'm aware of...) that I can't use anyway:/

Just for the record, how the hell do you find out what version, if any, of OpenGL you have, anyway? The only way I found out was from the UV Mapper log file.

And btw, UV Mapper Pro 2 works pretty good for me, though it slows right down when I try to display the actual model, obviously. UVMP3, however, is much more OGL-dependent and while I can use it, it moves like a snail in a puddle of molasses, so OGL-impaired folks might want to steer clear of it:( Other than that, the only problems I've encountered have been with the apps I've mentioned above.
Unless you have a brand computer, you could replace your mainboard by a decent MSI, Abit, Asus or Gigabyte. Will set you back for about $70-$110.

My computer has a total crap integrated graphics chip which has almost no OpenGL support. I tried putting in an actual video card, but I couldn't get the damned thing to work no way, no how (bad slot, possibly), so I guess I'm stuck with what I have. DAZ Studio won't even load, Mojoworld 2 SE neither, nor World Builder 3.6. So... My question is, will P6 work fine without OpenGL support, or am I screwed until I can get a better computer? Is any one else running it under similar conditions? Is OpenGL a tacked on extra option in P6, or is it an integrated part of the whole?
