"Slow Ascent" was a post-work, using the Luce 2D plugin, in photoshop. But, I did make a volumetric ray with that plugin, that can be used inside of Bryce on a 2d face, lemme go look for that gain, and I'll post it up...
The problem that you have with the cone is easily fixed, keep resizing the cone longer (but keep the same diameter), until the entire base of the cone pokes through the ground.

The cone on the right is exactly the same, I just lowered it until the upper edge of the base of the cone just barely pokes through the ground, which will eliminate the problem you are having.
Of course, having the cone do this, you usally need to re-position the angle and placement to get the light ray to be kinda where you want it again, but this is a neccessary evil.

Of course by the time I found the image AS had already replied.
I just used linear falloff to remove the round disc of light that would otherwise fall on the sand.

Now, here's the settings for the light with the rays on it: - see above.
Notice that the intensity is only 4!

Ignore the blue oblong - it's a water plane but it's hidden in this, all it did was to give a surface - you might see it's effects in the first image I posted - the reflections of the underwater "hills" above them. But just ignore it for this...

Of course the sky settings make a difference too. I can post those too if you like. Or just the sky preset I used - might be simpler. If I can figure out where to get an empty sky file....

amlan70,
I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
There is more than one way to do this, the way I have used here is with the light going through atmospherics - one other way is to let the light fall through a volumetric slab of water, without bothering about the sky, fog, haze etc.
(P.S. I think the caustic is the one from freebies here on R'osity - in case you can't find one)

Peers at Rayraz distainfully well, he can't be talking of me - there ain't no 'y's in MY name.

It's a pretty simple scene, I just wish I could make a decent picture from that. But I'm all out of ideas... underwater it's always cool..... I wonder if you could portray a "Hot Ocean"? (Musingly)
I did a red underwater scene a while back.... that didn't go anywhere much either. It was interesting though.

It's the kind of thing you normally get at the chippy... covered with crisp golden batter. Comes with chips.
Often called "adduck 'n chips, wiv mooshy peas.... twice"
Yours on the other hand (flails the haddock vaguely but threateningly around in the air - twice narrowly missing slicing through Rayraz's throat) is more the damp and grey skinned variety, somewhat scaley with sticky slime dripping from it.

You know I think you're starting to go - ever so slightly - off topic there... I don't see anything related to water in any way.
I'm sure this was to do with water when we started... (pious expression)
(doggy paddles away as fast as possible - knowing full well he can't follow, not with those big billowing skirts of his)
(never mind that big heavy metal thing in his right hand that's just gonna drag him under in jig time)
You know, you really need to get into the swim of things old boy.

It took u 4 days to come up with it though, so I have a hell of a head start By now I'm back on land already. but that's ok, u could try and see if ur propeller works as well displacing air as it does displacing water :-P

Actually it only took me as long as it took to plonk it in and render, but I'm about 4 days behind on my emails... so... I'll have to try it out on land later - it might replace the chainsaw though, those blades look lethal enough - so you'll have to watch out... But if you're on land... I guess that's the end for this thread, seeing as this is an underwater thread.

*Newbie carefully pokes her head in the thread......
*sighs and ThanX the Gods that talented people like Fran (*respectfully stated) and
Agent Smith, post such easy and informative tuts on the fly.....
**Hi Thread! I stopped to read about the lighting and am I ever glad I did! I was about to ask in another new thread how this effect was achieved! I will be playing in Bryce for hours getting this one down! Did someone mention sleep? I remember that from a few months back.....don't think I had Bryce or any of these darn programs back then!?
*scratches head
Will stop by with my own results later.
If it isn't too impertinent Agent Smith or Fran, I saved the cone of light and wondered
if one of you would kindly tell me how to use it? To me it looks like a mask, but I wait for one of you before trying anything with it.
Many ThanX!

Here's the cone which in this scene pretty much envelopes the majority of the other things in the scene.
I'll post some more stuff in other messages.

ThanX so much Fran! I will have to play with this after we get thru the fires in our area....I an in Northern Nevada and we have several very large fires in our area. Possible evacuations are going to be called for. I will be off line for about at least 3-4 days. Wish us luck...it is very scary.

** I was trying to make volumetric streaming light rays falling on the river valley from the sky . But all I know is editing the lighting properties of a conical spotlight , making it volume and infinite visible . But how to get this effect as Agentsmith did in these two pics ? I also tried to apply the streaming rays material to a cone , but then i cdnt get rid of the round base of the cone . What to do . Please advice me.......................................Need this urgently. I have shown my pic, done with the cone and Agentsmith`s pics too . Waiting your reply................ Thanks.....**
