Subject: Modifying dynamic clothes

I want to modify a dynamic shirt for V3 by changing the neckline to a V. Basically my question is how does one get to do it. Can I just use a free 3d program like Animator and import the .obj of that shirt and modify and then export it back to Poser?

Quick answer: Yes - do just that.

Longer answer - Only do it for personal images, to avoid copyright problems (or contact the originator of the mesh for permission); don't expect all the textures to remain intact (.obj format doesn't support things like transparency), and if you add/delete any vertices then any UV mapping will also be lost.

Apart from that, there should be no problems. (I've been doing it for several years for fun and entertainment...)

Yeah, its only for personal use. I dont mean to sell it or anything. I just cant find the kind of clothes I needed from the freebies. Thanks.

You can always make a transmap.

It's better to modify the mesh than to make a transmap.  The simulation will run as if the missing parts are still there, and it just doesn't look right.

@jquin3 as diolma said: change the mesh and you'll inevitably loose the uv-mapping. why don't you just pull down the front of the dress little by little with 3 or 4 identical mags, each (mag zone) a bit smaller than the previous, and spawn a new morph? @randym77 OT. i can't help it, it seems to me as if i'd miss a nasty joke. who in god's creation is voldemort? Removing vertices (and hence polygons) won't affect the UV mapping on the rest of the object.

yeah, nruddock, you've caught me bullshitting! blame me for giving superficial answers...1:0 for you;) pls let me try again, ok? hey, jquin3, you still here? look, nruddock is absolutely right! you can remove polys without loosing the mapping, which means, depending on the tools you have at hand, some additional effort. free uv-mapper and poser grouping tool can help. if your work relies on anim8tor only, forget it! most likely the v-neck would look like a shark's jaw in any way. but if your intention is to cut through the mesh (as i understand), that's where the shit hits the fan. even then you can keep the majority of the uv-mapping. but you'd have to map those new polys seperately and stitch them into the original uv-map one by one and that manually (50 polys, a hundred perhaps?). so, unless you work on a very well-payed project, i suggest you "just pull down the front of the dress little by little with 3 or 4 identical mags, each (mag zone) a bit smaller than the previous, and spawn a new morph." er, and you should apply a simple texture because of the resulting distortions. @nruddock that's better, right?;) @markschum well, that would make sense, hehe! Or just use Material Room shaders to texture the garment, instead of a texture map.
