Subject: ..Node-Locked Issue Solved...Or ???

Veritas777 ( ) posted Fri, 03 November 2006 at 9:37 PM · edited Fri, 15 November 2024 at 2:03 PM

...Funny, I haven't heard anyone talking about the "node-lock" issue with Vue 6 Inf... does the Pre-lease HAVE any single-machine locking? This was a BIG ISSUE previously- what has happened?

Would E-on spring a "surprise" with the final released version and after many people have bought it- say- you must pick a node-locked or "floating" version to get your CD's and manual...???

Has anything been said about this?

...Inquiring minds want to know...heh!

Nobody is talking about it because I thought (hoped ?) that it was not an issue any more. e-on has assured everybody that 'node locked' is the same as the old license. You can install it on a desktop and a laptop if you want, as long as you use only one copy at a time. You can also reinstall it on an upgraded machine without problem. 'floating' licenses are for companies with a local network and a lot of people potentially using vue at the same time from multiple machines. That way, they don't have to pay for a number of machines but for a number of people instead. That's all we know at the moment.

I think floating license can also be good for people that multiple machines and mulltiple 3d packages - and work with two packages at the same time. In my case Lightwave 3d and Vue 6 xStream.

At home I run with two machines side by side.

...yes, the old way would be really nice!

I greatly prefer using my Athlon 64 totally OFF the internet- it hasn't been on the net except once- when it was built by CompUSA and they installed XP SR2 on it - since then it has remained HIGHLY STABLE and free of many problems other people report- because, I believe, that it isn't loaded with lots of INTERNET CRAP... and why I don't like the idea of a software installation that REQUIRES having to be on the internet to use it...

I use one of my older Win2K machines for internet surfing, loaded with protection, etc- but I wouldn't want to use it for any 3D work!

I have worried that E-on would LOVE to follow Microsoft's plan to make everyone check-in on a regular basis with a hardware-software check...since we know E-on leans towards a control-freak type of thinking- and has yet to CLEARLY state what will actually happen when the "rubber meets the road" after December 1... and why I am a little paranoid that E-on is using this PRE-RELEASE as a way to CAPTURE as many users sales as possible before REVEALING their real plan...(heh!, yes, it sounds so PARANOID- but then- this is what MICROSOFT wants too, etc.)

Of course, this pre-release has been a great MARKETING GIMMICK- I have to give them credit for that!- think about it- by pre-releasing JUST V6i --they enjoy the hype and excitement that causes many people who have not purchased Vue before to run out and buy their TOP of the LINE single-user (PRO) software... rather than a lesser version! ...And-it does help keep the CONFUSION down with just ONE Production Release--and the EXCITEMENT and SAVINGS!- Get V6i Pre-Release NOW and SAVE!!!...really EXCELLENT marketing strategy, heh!

Yet, people still don't know what the actual RELEASE license will require in the way of a copy protection scheme...I just wish I know for SURE what the scheme is in a clear way. I would love to buy the software NOW- but still waiting for the "other shoe to drop" as they say...

For the official explanation about the differences between licenses, check out e-on website -> vue 6 infinite -> production section (or follow the link below). I know that 'node locked' licenses say that your copy will be locked to a single computer but I asked that question at SIGGRAPH, and I got assurances from people at e-on that it would not prevent hobbyists from installing the same copy of Vue on a desktop and a laptop, provided they are using only one copy at any given time. If you have more questions about the new licensing scheme, feel free to ask them directly.

..well, Agiel, did your Beta Copy require you to be on the internet to register it?

And/or is E-on maybe doing the old Poser 5 thing that has a little program that looks for another "instance" of V6i running?

That, of course, became a hugely unpopular "feature" in the Poser Community until Curious Labs later semi-disabled it. ...(the other simple thing was to just log off your home network)... but honestly- I'm not looking really for ways to defeat such a scheme.. ..mainly just worried about how far they might go until it causes another big "up-roar"...

The old scheme required having BOTH an older copy on your machine (for an upgrade) and putting in BOTH the OLDER CD and then the NEWER CD, and also entering both serial numbers at some point (as I re-call)... quite a few steps... how much more can they add except having to go on-line and perhaps maybe checking your EXACT OS and CHIP Codes (like Microsoft does)...(Another reason why I think I want to AVOID Windows VISTA for at LEAST 6-12 months)... Nothing to hide- but I suspect VISTA is going to be another Windows ME or some other 1-2 year transitory 64 bit Microsoft OS until a TRUE Professional 64 bit Microsoft OS emerges...and I just don't want to be a part of all the GARBAGE they are going to install in people machines so that we can "enjoy" the internet experience...!!!HEH!!!

Veritas, you of course can enter the activation code manually - and get it with another machine first. It was discussed in the beta phase of course. And even for those who do not have ANY internet connection (later, when the boxed version is out) there is always a way doing it via telephone.

Important is the INST code, from that the activation code is generated.

...O.K., Wabe- what you are saying sounds a LOT like the PhotoShop scheme- which is fine with me... They require you to call an AUTOMATED NUMBER which asks for your PhotoShop Machine specific ID (however they generate that?) and then the Voice Computer tells you the numbers to input into the software... and then you are FINISHED! ...it takes about 5 minutes, at least...

I have transferred my copy of PS 8 at least 5 times this way...I think Adobe gets suspicious if they were to see you transferring this REPEATEDLY over a very short period of time- but I've done it over a 2 year period without a problem... BUT I've heard that Microsoft's scheme REQUIRES an internet connection- and allows only 1-2 times for re-installation before sutting down your OS..don't really know FOR SURE if this is how they plan to do for VISTA...

The thing about the PhotoShop deal --at least because ADOBE is a BIG COMPANY- they can set up this nice license transfer feature using a touch-tone phone and/or computer voice... WILL E-on be providing this kind of 24 hour SERVICE? In the past they haven't been particularly great at that...  SO the question is-- in 6 months- if I switch to another OS, will I just be entering a set of numbers that I ALREADY HAVE??? ...Or- will I have to get a new set of numbers from E-on via TELEPHONE?...and will this be automatic, 24 hour service... or rely upon someone actually, in person, giving me these new numbers...?

I THINK that the MORE SPECIFIC E-on can be about EXACTLY how they intend to handle this- the more people like me will feel that they have a handle on it...E-on has been FAMOUS in the past for leaving these kinds of "petty details" until a bunch of S**T hit's the fan... I would like to KNOW that they have FULLY THOUGHT THIS THROUGH...and IF THEY HAVE...What is the scheme, and how does it work...

"Veritas, you of course can enter the activation code manually - and get it with another machine first"-

Wabe- still not totally clear on what that means --"get it with another machine first"... Do you mean I go on-line and get it from E-on's website?

"Important is the INST code, from that the activation code is generated."

Wabe- so is this like the PhotoShop scheme- the first set of INST numbers creates an activation code...and then ON MY MACHINE (without calling anyone) I now have the SECOND SET of numbers to COMPLETE the registration process...and that IT?

I am tired of messing with the issues with license system, it keeps loosing the license in 64 bit and until it fix, I have to used other applications.

Because if it looses the connection in middle of render, Vue 6 locks and all work is lost.

I been out of touch for Vue for a while, and this is not what I desired coming back to it.

E-On must fix this problem or I requesting a refund.

Veritas, i am not 100% clear because i do simply not know enough about the principle. I can only talk about what i have done so far.

...thanks for your info, Wabe... I still waiting to hear how this all FINALLY pans out with E-on!
