Subject: Poser 7 and new patch 290396

Paula Sanders ( ) posted Thu, 12 April 2007 at 9:18 AM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 2:39 AM

I did some testing on Poser 7 importing Sidney. Now I did not use the SR1 update since e-frontier mentioned there were problems with it so I don't know if that caused  any problems, but the following are the results I sent to tech support at e-on. It would be interesting if someone could confirm these figures.

"I ran some tests with SidneyG2 from Poser 7. I did not use Poser 7 SR1 because of its defect. I am waiting for update on SR1 which is being developed. I did use the new character updater.

I did not use any scenery only the default in Vue.

On my first series of tests I used only Vue controls. I did not activate any Poser controls on import. I dressed Sidney with a tank top and jeans. The resources when opening Vue 6 I were 90%. I have 4 gig memory even tho' I know all are not used.

Sidney with regular hair import 68% memory
rendered at 72 in window on final 68% memory
deleted Sidney and purged and flushed 78%

opened up Vue again memory 90%
Sidney with strand based hair import 35%
rendered same as above 33%
deleted sidney 29%
flushed program crashed

Using Poser import controls (I can provide you with screen captures of the import controls)

Always close and reopen Vue

Sidney regular hair import 64%

Sidney Strand based hair import 36%
flush history 33%
delete figure 32%
flush history 46%
purge memory 51 %

This is only one figure each time with no Vue scenery. Isn't the memory very low?"

Honestly,Why not just use DAZStudio for export to .obj? Works perfectly everytime.

Trepz...

1). Animated Poser files. Exporting to .obj doesn't keep the animation.

2). Reposing. Maybe that pose you have is close to what you want, but maybe it is a bit off for the scene you are working on. Now you have to export the .obj again and again and again until it is just right, instead of simply re-saving the poser file and having Vue automatically update it...

Paula it's not just Poser stuff - I imported an obj(golden hind ship non poser) imported into Vue(empy scene) resources dropped to 60% - i was able to move around/rotate/scale with no further drop.  When I purged I got back a whopping 2%!  Now then, I deleted the ship purged & flushed history(which for once worked) I only back to 70% & this is on an empty pic

This is applicable to various other formats as well NOT just poser.

I have reported to tech.

But really,it is FAR easier to import through DS than Poser anyday:D And I use neither for renders in like 3 years or so,but I know..not the point,I am just bored:0)

*Of course not, it's one more step to go through. Not only will you loose animations, but when using Poser materials/shader they all get lost as well. The ability to correct a pose inside Vue is lost and with every little change, you need to go throught all of the steps again. I do find it a hassle to go through D/S and it sure doesn't increase the workflow.

Also with the newest update, Poser imported objects work much better then before. For me it's a huge difference compared to the previous version.

Aeilkema -

What type of Poser figures did you use?  Was their hair transmapped or strand based? It seems to still make a huge difference. What did you do with your figures. I would really like to know the improvement.

I ran the same tests with Poser 7 as I ran earlier, but this time I discovered Poser 7 SR1.1 on their web site so I installed it. the results were basically the same.

I simply tried the same scene as before (I'm on Vue Easel btw). It doesn't have characters in it but, I used a G.V.C.S vehicle which has many parts and textures on it and also a few Poser spaceships. With the previous build, after importing the G.V.C.S vehicle, Vue 6 came almost to a complete halt and I couldn't add much more to it.

With this newest build, I can import the G.V.C.S vehicle into a scene and add the 3 spaceships I wanted and still everything works pretty good.

I also tried M3 with the knights errant armor & weapons in the old build. I wanted a couple of them in a scene (each with different textures used), but after importing one of them, Vue 6 started to crawl already. With the newest build I can import a them without a problem.

For me the newest build definitely is a huge difference when it comes to importing Poser figures.

I share the same conclusion since the new build

me too - I go from 27% resources free to over 80% after importing a V4, clothing and hair so I'm well impressed
