Subject: Shadow catcher

Hi All:

How would I do the following:

I have a backdrop (stactic)  showing a building with a sidewalk.  I have one character positioned to look like its on the sidewalk.

How would I make a ground plane to just catch the shadows from the character giving the illusion he is actually on this backdropped side walk.  Or is there a way to cast shadows on the back drop?

Cheers

Have a look in the Help. It should have the answers.

What kind of lighting?  Outdoor distant lighting?  If so, insert an infinite plane in your scene and edit its shader by changing its Top Shader from Multi Channel to Lighting Models > Shadow Catcher.  Tell your lights to use soft shadows for added affect.

Thanks for the tips.  I  was waiting for the new C6 manual.  Didn't realise the shadowcatcher feature was from the C5 version.     I just went thru Marks Tuts and my brain is on overload with all the goodies available.      I guess I"ll  roll up my sleaves and dive into the PDF

Cheers
