Subject: OK, I am having the same sharecg problems, and now with a german download, Help

OK, here are the three files I am trying to download.

http://www.sharecg.com/v/16693/poser/V3-Phantasy-Helmet

http://www.sharecg.com/v/15953/poser/V3-Warrior-character+outfit

http://www.sharecg.com/v/16262/poser/V3-Beloved-Alien-headmorphs+texture

Same issue nothing will download from sharecg. So I went into my Internet settings and tried to make adjustments, nothing. I e-mailed Fredi and I recieved the files via the german hosting site that she runs, direct link.  XP said that it wouldn't open the zip because of it being harmful to my computer, and that it was corrupted (*and yes I did try to overide that prompt). She reloaded the files and we have been trying for 2 days to get these to download. I did manage 3 times for them to load...they were all corrupted.

Does this strike a bell with anyone? I had just reinstalled (*and Yes, I was having the sharecg problems before the new install!) a new windows OS not that long ago and I don't know why this is being this way. I honestly have no issues from anywhere else. And with the exception of sharecg, I had never had any problems until now with Fredi's files from germany!

I am totally at my wits end because this isn't a freebie, I am going to purchase the license for it.  So can anyone send me a screen shot of thier security setting in Internet options, I have everything checked.

I am beginning to feel like i am going insane here. :(

ThanX

Ariana

First question I see is that I have DSL, and I do not see a DSL setting on yours??? It is located on mine right above the "Use Smooth Scrolling".

And on the second question, No I do not use firefox. Nor do I want to. I really install as little on my OS as possible, in as much as FF is liked by many, I have been told it runs on top of IE and therfore takes almost twice the space on your system. Because I have a Dell and IE is a part of the OS. I actually asked several people about this on a geek forum and from techs I know here locally.   But I could be wrong, still any site that wants business should be compatable with both i would assume?

Any Ideas on the DSL setting????

ThanX!

I have DSL as well and the option is on the same place on my screenshot I just don't have it checked (it does not seem to effect anything for me)

I have just sent you a test email to your info @ yousite address

Firefox does not run on top of IE, it runs instead of it.  It's a lot faster, less vulnerable to security holes and is just generally nicer to use than IE.  If Firefox is running, IE isn't - simple as that

I agree with FrankT, FF is a lot leaner application than IE. It runs faster, better overall support for standards. When using IE to access ShareCG I get timeout errors or it cannot connect at all, FF does not have those problems. If you really love IE, you can add the IEtab to the FF browser, which allows you to switch to an IE engine from within FF if you do not like the way a page loads. Hi sorry I was away so long....

I really only have one thing to add to the present discussion. If other have issues using sharecg with ie, why doen't the site state this on thier homepage, or at the top of every page. Instead of assuming everyone uses  a search engine that many still do not.  Just curious because I don't plan to get it, it has problems like ie, and I already can download fine from 99.9 places. I don't want to have to play with this site any longer. It does seem to be thier issue. So I just tried to check my settings. Besides, I actually do not appreciate being "coerced" into using a search engine, if that is the real issue tho, sharecg should place it squarely on thier pages and save many from grief.

ThanX to all for your help with this.

I have asked Jake from ShareCG to lend a hand, hopefully he will join us soon.

FutureFantasyDesign ( ) posted Mon, 29 October 2007 at 2:25 PM

Well I had initiated another post on this problem a few months back, and I believe that it was jake who asked me what my settings were, that is why in this post I placed them here. My only complaint is it is not my computer, or my search engine or my DSL connection, and all the excuses that are used doesn't change the fact that many (*not just myself) cannot download from sharecg! So if it isn't me, my puter, my connection, my search engine (*because ANY should work!!!), then it is and always has been a server/site problem. I honestly think they got too  big, too fast and just won't admit it. They have more then they can get out with thier existing set up, and some suffer, while others don't. So as long as someone can say "I can download" that does not mean that the site does not have serious issues!

But hell I am only one potential customer/vendor.

So who cares if I whine on and on about the problem, as long as "someone" can download, 'nough said....

Ouch... I will leave it alone then, it sound like you have had enough. Vince

FutureFantasyDesign ( ) posted Mon, 29 October 2007 at 4:21 PM

Oh Vince, this was directed only at a "Site" problem, never at you or anyone at all. It is extremely frustrating, and btw, I found out the reason I could not download from the German site, it is a dedicated server that is only up when she loaded it up! So that makes my odds like 99.999% upload capable.  IF I only had issues on any other site, say Renderosity! or Daz! or PoserPros, and of the sites i download from and do so on a very regular basis. Even when Daz is bogged down the download does go  through... so what am I to say then? If it were then I would definetely be concerned for my end.

Sorry to make you feel I was snarky at you!!! :)

ShareCG ( ) posted Wed, 31 October 2007 at 1:19 PM

Thanks again for bringing up your concerns about the site. I simply don't understand--I'm sitting here on my computer, using IE 6 and 7, and it seems to work just fine. Can people please start posting links to items that don't work? I wonder if it is item-specific or something with our site.

I agree with everyone's sentiments that a good, working website will work 100% of the time, on every browser. That's definitely the way it should be, and we aren't going to stop trying to fix our website until that is the case. What drives me up a wall, though, is that if we can't replicate the problems ourselves, it's near impossible to catch them.

Thanks everyone for your help. In our short 7 months, ShareCG has been able to grow mostly because of people's feedback (and yes, honest complaining and open frustration) about our site.

-Jake

Oh, and to be clear, your internet settings shouldn't change a thing. If the rest of the web works with your current settings, so should our site.

However, if tinkering around with those values actually seems to make it work, please let us know. That could be a hint as to why our site is not performing...

Hi sharecg,

I just got back on, holiday decorating for tonite had me gone for a couple of days.

In a nutshell here is what happens when I try to download *"Only" on sharecg...

I click on the big 'Download' and the prgress bar at the bottom will go slooooowly about 1/3 of the way across, then freeze. At that point it is stuck and I have to ctrl, alt delete to exit your page. On very rare occasions it wil allow me to X out. But that event is rare. So, there it is. It happens on all poser related prouducts and backgrounds for me. If it is an OBJ, a Poser file, or a Background/Photo resource. Those are the only files I have tried to download.

I have never experienced this issue anywhere. The closest I have come is when Daz is throwing a sale, and a lot of people are downloading at the same time. Then the file is extremely slow to come and possibly you have to come back in a few minutes. BUT the page will release normally and you do not have to resort to ctrl alt delete to get out of the site.

I don't even see things that I would want to download often at sharecg, because I only use commercially permissible items, and many are only for personal use. But on that rare occassion I see that one thing I'd like... I always have issues. I now generally ask the vendor directly now. Mainly because most I know, and they know I am not going to make up something like this.

And that brings me to the most frustrating part of this issue...everyone saying "I don't have a problem" Like I got nothing better to do with my time then complain... **:( **  Honestly if everything worked, you'd never have heard a peep out of me!

Then it is the "Well, what settings do you use?" Like my settings that allow for downloads everywhere else are suspect? Or my browser is the problem, or the wrong moon cycle! LOL! Yes it is frustrating and infuriating and downright embarrasing the things that I get asked like I can't or don't have half a brain because I can't get this particular site to download!

I actually spent 2 hours with SBC trying to resolve this issue. They are as non-plussed as I am! We did test downloads and timed them, we did ping tests, we tested the modem and the line and everything on my end works! Except downloading from sharecg...

And to finish... honestly, I would never go through this except now it has become a quest... to resolve the problem and become vindicated. *sigh

Ariana

PPS: The last thing that I tried to download was Jeff's Nurbia Spheres...same problem and he was sweet enough to send me a direct file link to his own server. That downloaded in less than 1 minute.

ShareCG, I too still can not access the domain, not just individual pages but the whole of the www.sharecg.com domain.  I have been plagued with this issue since mid July 2007.

I sent you a private message several weeks ago providing certain information and asking what else you might need to investigate the issue.  Is it possible my ISP, the www.rose.net domain, might be blocked by sharecg.com?

As I've stated earlier, the concept behind sharecg is rather nifty, and I certainly don't begrudge anyone making use of it, but my present circumstance effectively make all items there forbidden.

Sincerely,

Bill
