THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Hi! I want to "Chop" out a portion of a circle...but I can't get the two to hili

FutureFantasyDesign ( ) posted Fri, 16 November 2007 at 5:31 PM · edited Thu, 31 October 2024 at 11:07 PM

Hi I guess I am not nearly as good as I want to be! LOL!
I have a problem cutting out a Boolean from another.

Here is where I am (*I have Bryce 6.1 open now) I have 2 spheres, 1 Negative and 1 Positive, they bisect each other as I intended for the cut process. I can get one to hilite, but when I hold down the CTRL key to hilite the other, it won't fly. What am I doing wrong and can someone give me "Cutting a Boolean" 101?

ThanX!

Hold down the shift key instead of the control key - on a PC, anyway.  Not sure about a Mac.  :)

OH! I have a PC....let me run and look! *woohoo!!!

UGH!!! darn darn darn darn!!!!

I hilite the one, and the other Un-Hilites! I need to hilite both right? I want to use the 2nd spher to chop out the 1st sphere. :(

Did I do something wrong or forget a step?

Click on one sphere to select it.  Hold down the shift key to select the 2nd one.  Hit the little "G" to group them.  Hope I have explained it well enough.  :)

OK, I am off again! Thank you..I swear I am not stupid... :/

Me

*sigh I hilited the 1st sphere, held down the "shift" key and right click? I tried both and neither would allow the two to both hilite. I don't know where the little g is because it didn't materialize, or do I hit g on my key board while holding the shift key? I'm sorry...I do good groupings inside of poser! Try again?

You could always click and drag around the two spheres.............

You did go into the properties of each sphere and make one positive and one negative?  You have to highlight the first one and click on the A and make it positive.  Same with the second one but make it negative.

Yes I did that...do I just render now? Or do I cut? I am still a little confused.

Hmmmm....still doesn't look like a crescent to me. Well I tried to use the ring to do the crescent and i guess i never realized all boolean shapes are hollow? Can they be made solid???

Ha! Did it! I'll post my results in a moment!

If you make the negative sphere a little bigger and flatter than the positive sphere, you can get sort of a crescent shape.

All boolean shapes are NOT hollow. Bryce Native Prims when booleaned are solid. Prims are only hollow when they've been imported from other people like Spacebones.

For future referrence another way to select things (and it is especially good to give each thing a meaningful name) is to click on the icon at the bottom of the screen and select it from the drop down list.
For instance if you had five spheres and named them posSphere and negSphere and ball etc
Then you can just go to the drop down select posSphere and hold the shift key and select negSphere. It can save time and agony , especially if other objects are blocking the object you want to select. Takes out the guess work.
I also like to take selected objects into solo mode to make tweaks and adjustments to them.

HTH :)

ThanX Ang25! And ThanX to everyone else too! This is the first time I have cut up stuff in Bryce...not as cut and dried the first time around! :)
