Hi, can anyone tell me why Poser 6 is not showing thumbnails for some products? I have a lot in Poser 6, but was told to change the prefs file, which I did, but a good many of the thumbnails are not showing up. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Shirley rocker333

You only need to change the librarypref.xml file in Poser 5.  For poser 6 if you go to "Edit" and "Preferences" you should find something about collapsing thumbnails under one of the tabs.  Pick "Never Collapse" and then save the changes.

Thanks for your reply.  I do have that checked. I am going to try reinstalling Poser and see if that helps.

Don't forget to reinstall the SR patch updates too.

Did the reinstalling, didn't make any difference. I am at a loss as to what to do next.........

Did you reinstall the updates as well? How about uninstalling the product and reinstalling that? You could also try creating an external runtime, or using the 'downloads' runtime..install to that and see if the thumbnails reappear.

I do have an external Runtime. I didn't uninstall, just did the reinstalling. Do you think I should uninstall it, then install it clean?

Acadia ( ) posted Sat, 01 March 2008 at 2:19 PM

You shouldn't have to uninstall Poser 6 to do a reinstall to fix things. I've never had to do that.

Did you install the SR1 and SR2 and SR3 updates?

libraryprefs.xml in runtime/prefs folder

<?xml version="1.0"?>

change the previewnum value , default is 100

rocker333 ( ) posted Sat, 01 March 2008 at 2:34 PM

Yes, reinstalled everything. Took some files out and it still is not showing up, quite a lot of them in each folder.........

Jumpstartme2 ( ) posted Sat, 01 March 2008 at 3:03 PM

What I meant about uninstalling/re-installing, was the product "Blackthorn Rose" for example..not uninstalling Poser 6 ;)

Also, change that value Markschum referenced above, see if any of that works :)

Oh, okay. I did change the '200' number to 1000, as recommended. But it wouldn't stay changed. I am just going to uninstall it completely and reinstall it and see if that helps. A lot of the thumbs are not showing up, not just Blackthorn Rose's............thanks for all the advice, I do appreciate it........

Some thumbnails have a broken alpha channel. I believe this can often be fixed by using P3DO Explorer (see attached link).

There is a free version and a paid for version (see RMP -> http://market.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?vendor=6261).
IIRC, the difference being the paid for version does bulk conversion, the free one only one at a time.

1000 is too high a number. Try picking 600 or something like that. I know with Posr 5 I couldn't get it to stay with 1000.

Also make sure you go to "File" and "Save" after you make the change in the file.

What i did was forget about Poser 6, although I like it better than Poser 7, and pointed Poser 7 to my external runtime. Now the thumbnails are showing. Which bring me to why I don't like Poser 7. Sometimes it will close when I am going from one folder to the next, say going from the 'figures' to the 'pose' folders, and sometimes it will say 'building folder menu, then close.....if I don't click on it the right way........lol.........thanks everyone for your help, it is much appreciated. Another question, if I am not using the Poser 7 default characters, is it okay to delete them? Thanks again!

Acadia ( ) posted Sat, 01 March 2008 at 5:28 PM

Yes, you can delete the default characters if you don't use them.  You can also do a "minimal install" instead of a full one. I used to do that with Poser 5 and 6 when I had a smaller hard drive and didn't have room for a full install.

rocker333 ( ) posted Sat, 01 March 2008 at 5:31 PM

Okay, that is good to know. I don't use them they are just taking up space. I will delete them. Thanks!

Acadia ( ) posted Sat, 01 March 2008 at 5:36 PM

You can also compress your files to save space.  See this thread where I have given some instructions on how to do that.

I was wondering what that compress thingy was......lol.......but I am using Poser 7 now, and the thumbs are showing up..........I just hope it doesn't close on me for no good reason.....lol....
