Subject: Strange 'lag' problem with Poser 7

Neyjour ( ) posted Sat, 08 March 2008 at 11:16 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 8:57 AM

All of a sudden my P7 has started 'lagging' and I don't know why.  I'll try to explain as best I can what's going on...

I aways used to have an arrow mouse pointer when working in P7.  Now, whenever I move the pointer across my workspace, it turns into a little cross with arrowheads on each end...and then it lags for about 5-10 seconds.  This also happens when I try to select a figure from the drop down menu, or after loading something into the workspace.

It's driving me nutty!  I don't know what has happened or what's causing it.  And I certainly don't know how to fix it.  Does anyone have any ideas please?!  :(

Did you update your video drivers recently? I know ati drivers are causing interface issues with P7...

I just installed the new ones the other day, and am seeing some garbage.. I might need to roll back until the next release, and hopefully it'll be fixed.. if you DO find out that's the issue, report it to SM, so they can bug ati about fixing it.

Well, I just sent an email to Technical Support.  Don't know if it will do any good or not... crosses fingers

Oh, and I forgot to say 'thanks' Gareee!  :)

I DID hear the april drivers for poser are much better, but I'm wondering if since then ati picked up another bug?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by that.  What are "april drivers for poser"?

This is what I installed from the ATI website:
ATI Catalyst 8.3 Display Driver for Windows XP Professional/Home Edition

Is there something else I'm supposed to install specifically for Poser?

Thank you SO much stewer!!!  😄

I edited the Poser.ini file and everything is back to normal...no more lag!I didn't even have to install the 7.12 driver.  It worked just fine with the 8.3.  Yay!

Open your Poser.ini file in a text editor (eg. Notepad)

Change:
PREVIEW_OGL_OBJECT_BBOXPICKING 0
to
PREVIEW_OGL_OBJECT_BBOXPICKING 1

For me (Win XP) the Poser.ini file is located here:
C: > Documents & Settings > Compaq_Owner > Application Data > Poser 7 > Poser.ini

I'm still getting some oddness even with boxpicking=1

I was referring earlier to the april ati driver when it's released.

Yeah, I saw in the other thread that there's supposed to be a fix for this next month.  :)

The only oddness I'm experiencing is a very brief flicker of the cursor every now and then.  But other than that, no major problems...so far.  :)

try doing an area render.. before it renders you see "ghosts" of the box that was stretched out around the area.

I'm also seeing preview lighting abnormalities.. if I get closer to a object it gets brighter, and further away it is lit less.

VERY weird.
