LOL, been hitting the cider have you then, Paul? I know how you feel. I can model in Bryce, but the wireframe displays of a complex Bryce model give me a headache. I can model using several of the heretical apps and do a darn good job of making buildings, mechanicals, or organic forms, but I don't feel quite as welcome here as I used to. I don't even have a gallery here currently.
It's a darn shame. Bryce is the easiest app to set a model up in. You can quickly set up materials, lighting, and POV, and incorporate the model into a very effective scene. I used to recommend Bryce to other modelers using one of those heretical apps that doesn't have a built in renderer, but no so much anymore. I recommend Carrara to them, not because it's better, or easier to use, but because the people in that forum don't give a fig about whether or not you built the model using Carrara. All they care about is if it looks good and renders well.
I'll probably never be able to model in Bryce...but that won't stop me from using it in the best way I can while I learn even more from all of you.
When I started using Bryce it was because of an artist called BryceHart ...Jonathan Cummings...who does beautiful landscapes... He left the Artzone galleries and i came here to learn from all of the talented people who post here..and are so willing to answer questions for newbies.
If everyone leaves because of a few obnoxious remarks...who will people like me learn from when we get in a pinch?

meh...;) I think it's just fine. I have a pretty weird outlook; I think I like to make pictures I like to see. Bryce is an important tool, but it's only a tool. To be honest, I haven't posted anything in the Bryce forum for awhile, 'ceptin' models I've made myself.

Paul, accepting that you may be drunk, get this. If someone gets on your back about imports let me know and I'll kick some butts. You have an import button in Bryce - use it!

I always try to state what apps I used and how (including any postwork) when posting an image so that no one gets hurt.

I have a very simple rule. What is the focus?
If a person creates an image in Bryce and then imports a few people or objects to bring the scene alive, for me it is a Bryce image.
If a person imports people or objects to be the main focus and then builds the bryce image around them, then for me the app that supplied those objects is the one under which the image should be posted.
Ok, that's quite enough. I'm getting tired of this argument. These might be your personal opinions but it's devisive and people are getting upset.

Excuse me!!!! You have spent 6 years in here calling anybody that even looked at the box another app came in a heretic. Now a few of us have stated our preference for full strengh Bryce and we are being devisive? I think this new moderator tag has gone to your head, and you need to lighten up a bit.

Okay people here is the goss. Bryster and I faced each other in the dull gloomy crypt deep in the bowels of the Bryce Cathederal. He stood there in his Cardinals robes(Shorter than he sounds in his posts) waving a print out of this thread.
"Your word inflame" He said.
"Not my intention." I say.
"No?'
"No.'
"You will still have to go to the comfy chair." He said.
"What the hell for." I say.
"Havent used it today. He said.
I turn to bolt but he hits a switch and the door slams shut. A light comes on showing something I hadn't notice before. THE COMFY CHAIR.
"Oh Hell" I say.
Just then a panel on the wall moves and Pakled steps in carrying an arm full of throw pillows and a sherpa blanket. I dive for the opening push Pakled aside and run like hell.
"WAIT HERETIC' screams The Bryster running after me. He pulls something from his robes and hurls it at me. It whisles over my head and buries itself in the door in front of me. It is a card sized piece of metal marked 'GET OUT OF THE COMFY CHAIR FREE. Present this card to avoid punishment." Another one thunders into the door, and a third.
I pull one of them out and throws it back at The Bryster.
"Paid in full." I say.
"Oh crap. He said.
I opened the door and stepped though, then turned nicked one of the other cards and ran like hell.
"Next time Sonny Jim, next time" The words followed me up the steps and out into the sun light.
There! That wasn't so hard was it.

First of all, I've gone around and tightened up the guy ropes. Welded down the hatches. Got extra military rations in. Cancelled the milk, and told work I won't be in for a while.**
I expect to be burned, flamed, whatever. Bring it on. I've watched this discussion develop, and can't keep out of it any longer, I've removed my subscription to this post in order to preserve my inbox!
People who are used to my drunken, rose-tinted ramblings might remember that I've been playing around with Bryce since the summer of 1997 or 1996, I can't remember which. I had 27 images chosen for Metacreation's "image of the Day" one year. Clever me. I've use Bryce so much I've bent it out of shape, and it's returned the favour. I know Bryce, I know art, and I used to know Renderosity.
This (Renderosity's) Bryce community has been a major element of what has kept me going for years, but the more application-related fascism (small "F", nothing to do with 1930's Germany, before ANYONE gets on their self-righteous high horse) I see, the less I like it, and the less inclined I am to post work here, or even to get involved in the Forums. I've never seen so many people resigning/retiring or so much macho posturing.
It seems to me that one of Bryce's enduring aspects is the need to not be a computer programmer to get it to work for you, and the fact that you can use it to make any image you want to, pretty much. Sometimes I import Poser (and other) models, sometimes I use Photshop to enhance MY work. Does anyone question which brushes the great artists used to make their work? Did they worry that Van Gogh might have augmented his sketching with photography?
Does it really matter if someone has used postwork and/or imports in Bryce?
My answer is that the most important part of an image is just that; the image. Who cares how it was produced? What EXACTLY do people get out of attempting to restrict what other Bryce users can or can't do/use to produce their own artwork; is it a power/ego trip, or a manifestaion of their own insecurity? How VERY DARE they attempt to impose their own views upon everyone else? This is getting dangerously like the anti-Poser arguments at CGSociety, which is Pure Poison.
If it's a case of allowing other users "to learn what Bryce can do", then let them learn, read the f*cking manual. Please, don't seek to trim other artist's wings just because you can't fly yet. Bryce isn't (or, IN MY OPINION) shouldn't be, a pissing contest. It's beautiful, multi-faceted, like human nature, and, like human nature, surely all shades of talent/skill/useage should be welcome.
If it's just a case of how works are labelled/which gallery they go in, then surely that is just a pathetic thing to argue about, and is a level of argument which just drives people away. Try this as an experiment; at work, (or even with your family), sit someone down, and explain this apparent postwork/import controversy to them. Watch their eyes glaze over/the expression of "so what " gradually dawn on them, like a slow Bryce render with all the quality settings checked. Take a reality check.
Anyway. Been at the Scrumpy for about 5 hours. If you don't know what scrumpy is, try some before your next piece of artwork. Works a treat. Reduced at Asda right now.
