Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 03 12:46 am)
In general, 3D content (figures, props, characters, poses, etc) works the same whether on Mac or PC. I use a Mac, and I have never had any problems with any products bought from the RMP.
The major difference is how you install them. On a Mac you can't just drop the product Runtime into your Poser folder (or wherever your library is). Mac OS X will ask if you want to replace the folder... to which you obviously reply "NOT ON YOUR NELLY". I mean, click Cancel.
I use a little utility called dittoGui to copy product Runtimes into my library. If I buy a DAZ product I first use the DAZ installation program to expand the contents into a product Runtime folder, then copy that Runtime into my library.
There are some stand alone products specifically written to work under Windows, and some Poser Python script products that were developed on PC and may need a different version, or some post-purchase adjustments, to work on a Mac. These products will usually be clearly marked on the product page as being for "PC Only" or "Windows Only".

I really wish these vendors would make their source code available. Due to the UNIX which runs underneath Mac's Aqua user interface, every Mac on the planet has the ability to compile the same utilities which Windows users take for granted. I wonder if these developers just aren't aware or if they just don't care.
If .NET desktop applications can run on Mac (is there a Mono for Mac yet, including WinForms?), the "Windows only" utilities in my freestuff will run on Mac too.
With a bit of thought, any Python script can be made OS independent.
Older Poser versions (5 and 6) often have trouble with Tkinter based Python GUIs. Poser 7 and later have a working Tkinter again. This is a Tkinter compatibliity problem, it's not actually Poser's fault.
Many of my newer Python scripts use the P6 user interface style, which is based on wxPython, and works equally well on both Mac and Windows.
