Subject: Cannot find Poser 8 library

rreynolds ( ) posted Mon, 24 August 2009 at 4:17 PM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 12:45 PM

I've just installed P8 and the library space is blank. The Window menu option is checked, so it should be visible. Does anybody know a solution?

Sounds like you need to get in touch with Smith Micro tech support, although it may be something very simple to fix.  I can't think of any good reason why the library tab should be completely blank on install, at the very least you should see the default library categories even if they have no contents.

From Smith Micro Tech (ratscoat):

Before I do.. I have sort of reworked the previous suggestions into an Order of checking. Since you did have success, I am wondering if the order is important. These are all things you have tried, but in a specific order.

The following has resolved this issue when encountered with over 90% of those reporting the issue.

First off, make sure your Operating System and your IE Browser are up to date, using Windows Updater. Set your Browser to Medium or Medium High Default Security Setting.

Then go to the Adobe Flash Web Site and use the Flash Uninstall and then use the Flash Install download files.

Uninstall
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
Install
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

Launch Poser after rebooting and see if the issue remains.

If that does not resolve the issue, check your Firewall/Security Programs to make sure you are not blocking Poser.exe or 127.0.0.1

The other issue encountered is one of Permissions for Folder Access. Installation should be as Administrator for all aspects (Poser and Flash) when using Vista and all Users should have access to the programs and the Runtimes. (This can be an issue even if you are the only user on some systems. Vista you should not run the program as the Admin, but from your user account that may have Admin Rights.) Remember to Reboot your system after you make any changes to your Firewall, Security Software or User Accounts access.

To verify that all items were installed correctly, check the following Folder

... windows/system32/drivers/etc

for the Hosts File. In Hosts, using Notepad, look for the following entry

127.0.0.1 ::1 localhost

change it to

127.0.0.1 localhost

(removing the ::1 ) <[do not leave the space]. Save and reboot. Launch Poser.

Also, verify that the LSMGUI/bin-release folder is listed as a trusted Flash application folder.

The contents should be a variant of this:
…Poser 8RuntimeuiFlexLSMGUIbin-release

It should match the main runtime installation location.

In that folder is LSMGUI.html and LSMGUI.swf, the two pieces that make up the Library GUI. Launch Poser and double click the LSMGUI.html file and launch it in your browser. LSMGUI.html will display the Library as a standalone (but Poser must be running). Viewing this in your Browser may reveal the problem. If you also have Firefox, try using that to check the File when Poser is running.

My problem is still pending. Check under the thread I started about a VSS Control Prop for Poser 8. Bagginsbill gave me some links to check under my browsers. I have IE and Firefox.

While Poser is running, click this link.

http://127.0.0.1:11530/apps/lms/api.py?op=appConfig

In IE you should see some XML. In other browsers, it may show a blank page, in which case View Source should show some XML.

If, instead you get this: (click for full size)

Then do this:

  1. In Internet Explorer, choose Tools->Internet Options.

  2. Click the Connections tab.

  3. Click the LAN Settings button.

  4. Uncheck the "Automatically detect settings" box, click OK and then click OK. Then retry loading the link.

If that works, restart Poser. You will proably see the library.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I don't believe it, but this fixed the problem!!!!!!! The Library is now working inside Poser 8! I tried a restart to see if it  continued to work and it does! This was my problem. I had gone through and done everything else listed by the tech. I had even gone into Norton and made sure that Poser was a permitted program.  This has solved the problem for me.

Yay. I just needed to see the error message. Then Google did the rest.

I knew it was something inside of IE that was blocking the Library palette. I couldn't figure out what it was. I fiddled with settings under Security and Privacy and could not get anywhere. This has done if for me and cleared up the problem. I am not happy that Flash is the direction and lot of programs are going to go now. But at least this has finally made Poser 8 fully functional for me.

All these problems really underscore a central question. What the heck is an application for 3d doing relying on internet browser technology to function properly.

Sorry, I grew up coding in assembler.

I wish there was an option to have the library show up as it did in 7, atleast with 7 I did not have to wait for it to reload each time I move from one Runtime to another and back again. I was hoping the SR would have fixed it, but it is something I can live with.

Can I pop in and ask about this? I got the XML plus a whole string of info in the window...

So if you look at the first image it shows what PP2010 looks like when I open it, and then it defaults over to the DNS error page! I did the check as said, and I am now going to see how my firewall is set up. I use SBC/ATT DSL with a 2Wire modem. And honestly I am not sure where to add the PP2010 for use there?!

I have to say I agree with hibingo! I actually wanted to install on a machine with no IE connection for rendering only. But that is not apparently going to happen any time soon. I am completely new to this version of Poser... I am anxious to get started.

Here is what happens after the content and program are fully loaded in...

Any advice?
