Subject: Michael

So, decided to add Michael from the Daz Studio to my poser library. But I added the runtime before I had unzipped all the files. Now I am missing hair and props. Decided to try to add again, it won't let me. Can I somehow delete this library and add it now that all files are loaded on my computer and in the right place?

Your post is a little confusing.  Does Michael (which version?) already reside on your hard drive?  IIRC, there is no separate DAZ installer for M4, so you can add Michael's runtime folder to Poser as an external runtime.

Which Poser version are you using?  It sounds unusual to be denied installation unless you are using the PoserPro series.  Regular Poser versions contain a Poser.exe in their folders which DAZ content exploit when looking for an installation folder.  The Pro series contain PoserPro.exe which is not recognizable by DAZ installers.  There are workarounds, but we need to know which version you are currently using.

Sorry for the confusion. I am  using Poser 8. And when I unzipped the files, it put them in a content folder on my hard drive. I then wenty to poser and added the content by browsing tothe runtime folder in the content that was added.

Thing is, when I DL Michael from Daz, I had four different downloads for materials, proprs, etc. I had only added the M4 Michael when I added the content, then installed the remaining three files from the Download and that's when I ran into trouble. I have no hair, props, etc.

I am assuming you checked each category for M4 content in the external runtime.  Did you check your P8 runtime?

Also, which operating system are you using?  Very important because Vista & W7 have security issues with applications installed within it's Program Files folder.

I am using MAC Snowleopard. I will check P8 runtime.

When you run a DAZ installer, you have to choose the Poser Library into which you want the product installed. When it shows the install folder, click the Browse button and select the location of your main content library (that you decided on when you installed Poser 8). Make sure you select the parent folder of the Runtime folder.

If you just let the installer do its thing without choosing the correct install location, goodness only knows where it will put them.

Ahhh, thanks. I see what you are saying. I will re-download then. I installed on my hard drive and added to the library.

Quote - I will re-download then.

It's a really good idea to save downloaded product files away from your main disk, if you have an external disk; or you can burn them to CD/DVD.

On Snow Leopard here also. What can screw things up is having more then one !DAZ folder. What I do and it takes time. Actually did this Saturday to make sure I didn't overwrite anything as I updated M4 for the elite and muscle morphs. I created a folder called Temp in addition to my existing Michael 4 runtime. I installed M4 all over again and pointed the installer to my folder named Temp. Make sure you go all the way to the last step of the installer and check the initialize the install. This creates a new or updated cr2 with the appropriate channels built in.

After I re-installed and or updated everything. Then I dragged what I wanted to my Michael 4 runtime and then moved the stuff in the !DAZ folder in the temp runtime to the appropriate places one folder at a time in my base runtime. This is the time consuming part. But my Daz characters always work as expected. Time spent on the front end, has saved me a ton of headaches latter on when Morphs don't work or load correctly. But when you are done, make sure you delete the now empty !DAZ folder in the Temp runtime.
