Subject: IDL artifacts - reminder please!

I've been searching through the various threads but I can't find where this is discussed, so can someone please remind me...

This is a crop from a gallery pic in which I just can't seem to get rid of these IDL artifacts. Are we still waiting for a final fix for this? If so, what is the best way to minimise the problem in the meantime?

The 'studio' is made up of separate walls and floor. At first the artifacts were much much worse, so I tried overlapping the surfaces. It was a bit better, but still pretty bad, especially in low light levels.

Would welding the walls and floor together in a modelling app get rid of the artifacts? I don't know how to do that but I'll give it a go if it will improve things.

Thank you
Izi

Izi, IIRC, there hasn't been a resolution yet for those artifacts.  We're still waiting for a final fix.

Nope. No solution.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

try it with 2048 or 4096 IDL samples and IDL IC=100 (no interpolation).
may render somewhat slowly if any transparency, refraction et al.

Thank you, all.

Miss Nancy, I tried spot renders with higher samples and IC, but it made very little difference, apart from the expected randomness of the artifacts. I didn't go as high as you suggest (the walls have a shading rate of 0.1, and I'm using Atmosphere for the smoke effect, so the render is just not worth the wait!) but I'll try another spot render with those settings and see what happens.

Try placing a black cube primitive around your entire scene, it helped me somewhat.
Good Luck!

It's funny in 2010 for poser to be the only raytracing software who dont know render correctly GI !

It's a chance it'n not very expensive ...

@Biscuits... Thanks for the suggestion. I'm using an EnvSphere for very low ambient lighting, but I'll try your idea anyway to see what happens.

@Anthanasius... Maybe Firefly (not Poser as such) is a little behind other render engines at a similar price point - I can't really comment on that. But as a Poser user I'm quite comfortable with what Firefly gives me, and I have enough confidence that significant improvements are in the pipeline for me to continue to learn how to use it well.

I'm certainly not going to spend any time wondering how green the grass is on the other side of the fence. I'll leave that to more serious artists or geeks than I will ever be!
