Just a cross-hair prop, smart-parented to the FocusDistanceControl. The prop is locked by default to stop it being accidentally moved out of alignment, but can be unlocked if you want to scale it up or down. Changing its Element Display style can give some variation in the thickness and colour of the lines, the Foreground Color can also have an effect in some display styles. The props material is set to transparent, so it should not show up in a render, or just hide it if you no longer want to see it.
Save it to any props pallet, and loose the ".TXT" part of the file extension.

Seems like these things always involve an amazing crosspost.
Les and I both hit Reply within six minutes of each other, six HOURS
after the original.
(I didn't know Les had replied, because I left the OP open in the browser
while I rigged up the object file.)

This is a perfect example where two minds, with the same goal, come up with the solution in completely different ways.
I replaced the internal OBJ with the one posted here. I also put in the prop. I will likely alter the prop and change it from the + to a series of concentric rings so I can add them with a simple prop when I need them.
I don't always center the camera and aim it at exactly what I want in focus so the "X" frequently doesn't intersect the figure or prop I want in focus. My solution is to use the old DOF calc script. Its a pita at times but it works for most applications. It too has its limitations as it calculates the closest piece of an object but frequently that isn't the focal point. Example? The Nose. From many angles the chin or forehead may be closer, not the nose (rough center of the face).
I do thank you both for brilliantly different methods and because you two came up with different solutions, I have a combination I can play with and expand with additional rings or other angles of lines.
Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.

Does anyone know how to change the focus "X" thing in poser 7 and 2010? I want to add vertical and horizontal lines to it as rarely do the diagonal lines hit what I want them to.
TIA
