Subject: Is there an "official" guide about cr2 figures?

Hi there,

is there sort of a "figure standard bible" that describes how Poser figures are set up and displayed by Poser? I mean kind of an official guide that would "promise" upward compatibility of the figures in future versions of poser?

I would assume that newer versions aim at being backwards-compatible, but well, who knows.

Thanks a ton,

col

There have been unofficial guides, but all derived more or less from reverse engineering. There's nothing definitive from Smith Micro (or previous owners), especially nothing to do with future directions.

In a previous job, we used to have a saying based on a paraphrase of Hanns Johst's famous line: "Whenever I hear the word 'assume', I reach for my gun... Then shoot myself in the foot." :)

Didn't Anthony Hernandez release a draft document of some kind, during the early Poser 5 days?  I don't remember what it was called, or what his Rosity user name was.   That was an "official" document, albeit not one which ever had an official release.  I suspect everything in it has since been included in other Poser file reference works.

I usually refer to Kuroyme's guide.

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

There was an official reference to the basic file syntax and structure of CR2s PP2s and such in the Poser Reference manual that shipped with Poser 7/Pro.  This is also in the PDF versions of that document in the digital version.  In additiona, Smith Micro has produced and marketed several books with Mixed author content that covers the file structure of the CR2 and some of the various additional elements in them, and these would be considered official.  None of these sources is a complete reference, and none of the ones I have read personally cover all of the various elements and commands that can be scripted into a CR2 (such as ERC, Geometry Switching, Sequential Image Textures, etc...).
