Subject: Bodysuit Mats for M3 in PP12

bloodsong ( ) posted Mon, 07 May 2012 at 7:33 PM · edited Sat, 28 December 2024 at 8:58 PM

heyas;

once upon a time, michael and vicky got morphs and some kind of material zone settings or other that let you slap a bodysuit/leotard/catsuit on them by re-assigning parts of the body to a different material.  anybody remember that?  like skin-body would be broken down into skin-torso, skin-neck, skin-hip...etc.  in fact, i'm looking at my m3 figure in PP12, and i see those materials in the materials list.

however... they're not appearing on the figure.  does anybody remember how this trick was done, back in the day?  and/or why it isn't working in PP12?  and, most importantly, how to get it TO work?  :/

i'm using MAT pose files from the M3 beautiful bishonen pack.

The Gen3's have MAT poses that'll do things like bicycle shorts, wetsuit, etc. That what you mean? Should be in the pose folders: Mike 3's are called !MAT M3 and !MAT M3 Body Suit :)

Seems to be working for me in PP2012.  Select M3, double-click on the Mat in the Library, and it appears.  No issues.

hmm...

okay, i took the bisonen bodysuit MAT files for M2 and applied them to M3.  THAT caused all the torso/arm/leg body parts to flip out and get weird random preview colours on them.  then i was able to apply the M3 material to those, but not with the MAT file.

i dont think it's the MAT file that is having the problem.  i'm thinking i might have done something to my M3 that made him not have or not able to have those bodysuit groups.  which is why i asked what the underlying mechanism to it is.  i know i can use the grouping tool to create new material zones, but i can't remember how a pose/mat file does it.

ya know?  :/

hborre:  you using the Beautiful Bishonen body glove MAT poses, or other bodysuit MAT files? i don't think i have any other mats that access that function.

M2 Mat zones and mesh are completely different from M3.  Delete M3 from the scene and load a new one in.  Otherwise, create a new scene.  If you mistakenly load the wrong MATPose to an incorrect figure, it will cause major problems by adding unintentional zones.

I don't know how it was done in M3, but these days a "second skin" usually uses a mask and a blender node to overlay the normal skin map with a map for the clothing. With this system the second skin won't show until rendered (perhaps it will in P9). Another way is just to paint the clothing over the skin texture. A spandex morph or displacement map can add to the realism.

As mentioned, M3 and M2 are different mapping, as are their respective body suits, so the M2 bodysuit MATs won't work on M3.  They won't even work on M2 itself, for that matter.

no no no...

guys, that's not what im talking about.  i know the skins are different, and the maps are different and all that.  and there's no second skin or extra figure or layer.  i have the right textures ON.

what i MEAN is...

okay, M3 starts out with mats like SkinHead and SkinBody.  but the bodysuit MAT poses make him end up with SkinHead and SkinTorso, SkinForearm, SkinNeck, etc etc.  you know, the ones that aren't there to start?  something in the MAT file is creating those new materials.  and for some reason my M3 Bishonen MAT files are failing to create those materials.

i guess i should dig out my cr2 editor and just look at the m2 and m3 mat files and see what is different... :/

You need to use those poses with the actual bodysuit product, not the human figure.

I have the M3 Bishonen product and it seems to function OK in PP2012.

It does not create any new material zones for the "armor textures" that come with it.
