inquire, check if you are subdividing the geometry. It's easy to lose count of the polys with Genesis. Generally you really don't need more than the same level of details used with V4, so try to keep it small. Every level of subdivision quadruples the number of polygons. If you take one V4, ~70,000 polys, and subdivide it once you end with ~280,000 polys! It will quadruple the memory footprint with just one figure.
Hope this helps.

Always suspected that you can't read .... you left out the how does it work part :tongue1:
Quote - > Quote - Anyone tried the Refine Brush feature in the new LuxRender yet, and how does it work?
What is the Refine Brush feature?
It's a new tool in Luxrender 1.2-dev which enables you to define areas of your render so that Lux will prioritize sampling on them (it will still be sampling the whole image, but gives importance to the defined areas). Great to help clear up those stubborn noisy areas in shadow, etc.
You can see the area I painted, and the brush cursor and controls, below. By the way here Lux is running a cloth test scene to demonstrate the new procedural cloth materials that are in the latest build of 1.2-dev.
LOL
I assume one has to mark the area, and then hit Apply? And what are the two Pen Type buttons?
Clear enough questions?

I had not noticed the two pen types. I have used whatever the default pen is and you completely white/grey out the area you wish extra samples to be taken in.. It's easy and works real well. You have it correct, mark and apply. once it clears up you can remove the sampling and return to normal sampling.

It sometimes takes an eternity to see results....
I usually wait til the bulk of the rendering is done, then pause the render and let it calculate the first time. That one does take a bit (3-4 minutes for a larger scene sometimes!), but any adjustments after that are pretty instantaneous. Pausing the render is the big kicker though as it allows the cpu to just do the math without trying to render a changing scene.

Brad.. one of your renders got a DS staff pick of the week again.
Been away for a few days. Earlier I made the mistake of combining my old runtime with my new streamlined one. The result was a mess that was nearly Nagasaki-level in scale. Five days of categorizing old stuff, and recategorizing new stuff in D|S's new directory structure for smart content. Down to just a few items here and there to clean up.
Robert Friese or anyone else running Nivida graphics cards;
I tried to enable the hybrid mode last night and hit another snag. The C++ issues surfaced yet again, so I updated those to the 2012 release from this past August. No change. (all vid drivers are current and running this against Lux 1.1)
I went looking on the Lux site for help, to which the wiki noted that the openCL workgroup is 'automatically detected' at 0. If one has problems, upping the openCL group by 1 until your cards work is the solution.
For my setup, both 0 and 64 crash. Set to 1, however, and it starts to render but the stat line is 0's across the board and the screen is black. I tried some random numbers, but they all ended in system crashes where a hard reset was needed. (after four of these I gave up and went back to CPU only. :-(
I'm so stumped/frustrated...

Afraid that I can't be of any real help when I was having problems setting it to 64 solved them
Thanks Robert :-)
Waiting for my curent image to finish, then its back to square one experimenting, simple style!

Such great renders.....maybe you should illustrat what you are trying to write with your renders, and the words will come to you later....just a thought.....

This is a script that I've been hired to write by an artist--established character with a decent following (in the cult indie comic world) so that won't work for this. The last two Red Riding Hood inspired renders do sort of tie in to the story because I'm reusing some scenes and ideas from this script. But now I really need to put down the Daz and get serious.

LOL I made the nice side even though I have not been posting as much I will BB soon. Currently visiting family including my ailing father.
OT question is everything (DS Face gen Reality Lux) compatible with win 8.. I was not really that intesrsted but when talking with a PC store rep round these parts, telling him that I do rendering art, he replied that I would really enjoy win 8 that it was designed for this type of platform. Anybody knows if 8 works better then 7...

It was just released yesterday so i doubt if anyone here has it. And of course he told you that, after all he is a salesman. I would wait for the reviews, it could be another release like ME was,,,, Useless junk! Do you remember that one?

So multi-task.. set up a render.. and let 'er rip.. then go write.. that's how I handle homework and housework.
Me think it's writers block. Nice image Brad.
I would wait a lot on Windows 8. Too many signs that there are too many issues. Personally I will not have the time to look at Window 8 until Q1 2013. Better wait for others to be MS beta testers and start playing with it after the first point release. Without going back to ME, remember Vista, that was just two releases ago.

I've had the Windows 8 Preview running on my laptop for a few months now and I absolutely hate it. Half of it didn't work (which is understandable since it was a Beta test) but overall it's clunky and hard to navigate. I'm putting Win 7 on there whenever I stop being lazy. I hope it's a total failure and they quickly move on to Win 9 based of Win 7.
The only rendering thing I ran on there was the Lux slave for network rendering so not sure about Daz compatability.

Once I figured out how to disable all of the "You are stupid and I will run your life for you" part of Vista, it was usable. Not good but usable. LOL ME on the other hand hit the trash can before the week was out.
Some nice renders posted! Would take too long to comment on each individually :) As for Santa ........
Vista wasn't bad, especially when it reached SP2. ME, yes, utter rubbish. My personal favourite is Win98 SE. It was excellent! As for Windows 8, my copy popped through the letterbox this morning.

The question is, what are going to do with it. I hear it's like an ant farm, full of bugs.
I hope you have 2 computers, one with and one without Win8. That way you can at least get on line and tell us how bad it is. hehe! Good luck..............
Still wacking away at trying to get GPU rendering working again. Tried a simple scene in SLG tonight, and at least it boots up, but all I get is the ol' black screen.
Here's the last few lines of the SLG portion with the error

Again, tried at 0, 1-5, then 64. Still no go. Is anyone else having success with their cards in SLI?
Also found this a bit further up the log:

I did have some problems on my older (now dead) machine with SLI but thatwas a long time back and SLI was new, some scenes wouldn't render on it
Out of curiosity, what do you have selected for your Geometry Format in the output tab?
I tried all three on the same scene, no change. I kinda lost track of what was supposed to be the default though! Oops

The default for geometey is Binary Ply and that is what you need fot SLG. SLG only understands PLY, using the Lux native format would cause an error.

Well, we have the Activity Monitor. Lux shows as taking between 173.8 to 194 %. Right. For real memory it's taking 1.74 GB, and for Virtual Memory, it's taking 1.96 GB. This is a simple scene, just one Genesis figure, an IBL Sphere, a Curved Mesh Light.
