Without You (Harry Nilsson)

No, I can't forget this evening
Or your face as you were leaving
But I guess that's just the way the story goes
You always smile but in your eyes your sorrow shows
Yes, it shows

No, I can't forget tomorrorow
When I think of all my sorrows
When I had you there but then I let you go
And now it's only fair that I should let you know
What you should know

I can't live if living is without you
I can't live, I can't give any more
Can't live if living is without you
I can't give, I can't give any more

Scene renderded using Callad's Easy Pose System Reality Meshlights. Many thanks for this, and for Light Projector System for Meshlights :) Please click for larger version.

Quote - Sort of on topic.  Just got Skies of Reality; which says that it is Reality compatible.  Have zero idea how to use it in Reality.  THought it would be traditional hdr images and it's not.  Any help would be appreciated.

The "Skies" images are in EXR format rather than HDR format that the ones that come with Reality are in (e.g. the Chircahua Plaza IBL). I'm no expert, but I understand that these are just two formats that do the same thing (high dynamic range).

As for using them, I have the free Skies of Reality and the Skies and Economy, and these both work by clicking the icon which loads the RealityIBLSphere with the preview JPG applied in the viewport (this doesn't get used in Reality/Lux) while the appropriate EXR is picked up when you launch Reality and you'll see it in your Lights tab there.

Callad.. believe it or not.. this character started out life as Neve.  Haven't worked with her for a while so wanted to bring her out of mothballs and do something unique with her.  Don't ask me wtf happened to  her outfit because I have no clue.  Most around here won't even notice she has clothes ON.

Hmmm.. after posting the render here.. the black streaks that were all over her outfit are gone.  I must have inadvertantly had an alpha channel active.

Where are these free versions of which you speak?

It's actually just one sky HDR image (scripted to use the Reality IBL sphere) plus what looks like a modified Reality Sun (never tried this). It was a promo freebie for SoR, I think, and I don't remember where I got it, but if you have Skies of Reality you probably have it already.

Skies of Economy is a paid for product with a bunch of day and sunset skies, which I bought from DAZ.

Callad, I played around with your light sets with this render.  The projector worked just fine casting the lines across the the wall and Velma's face.

Just an observation but aren't these the same as Reality Gels?

Jinkies!  The voice print matches!

(Can you say that with Velma's voice?)

Jinkies

Wonderful image UHF!

As to your question: No, the Gels are glass planes so they can emit color, the projectors use the opacity channel of a normal plane, thus they can only make black shadows.

I am working on a compact Gel Projector with preview, but the results aren't good enough for publishing yet. :)

The link to the Easy Pose System for Meshlights is also in the Guide that is in the Projector zip you downloaded :)

Also you don't have to browse back far, it still is on page one of the DAZ Studio section of ShareCG :)

To make it easy on you, here is the link again:

In between note: Got my Easy Pose GEL Projector working nicely today :) The glass plane is very small 0.25 X 0.25 and the preview works very precise.

Will take me some days to create loadable GEL Projectors duf files with all settings in place, then another week maybe to create several GEL presets.

If you have any idea's on what kind of GEL presets you want, let me know. (Must be 1:1 ratio images)

I see what you mean :) That would be possible to some extent. My gels work with a dazspotlight at this moment, so they will create circular lighting patterns. There will be no -overshoot- of the glass plane, so no unwanted light in your scene apart from the pattern on the glass plane.

A stained glass window will work, but small in the middle of the 'hotspot'. At this moment the pattern on the glass mask is projected razor-sharp into the scene. That is not good for all circumstances, so I will also see if I can use a tiny meshlight to make the given pattern a bit fuzzy.

There is room for both kind of light-gels imh, razor-sharp and fuzzy. Will see what I can do in the coming week or two :)

Oh, by adjusting the 'feather' there is a nice fall-off to the sides, will see if I can make special presets for that. That won't show in the preview though..

Happy 1 year Reality anniversary to me! Looked at my emails I bought it one year ago! Save for the painful few 1st months its been fun! Anyhoo more fun using alpha rendering & merging to pic backdrops. This guy is probably the best 10 bucks I spent. He has brought me hundreds of dollars in commish work! Also a link to a very explicit render that shows what a great job Reality / Lux can do with some sets! http://fav.me/d5vk0ke

Forgive me if this is a question that was covered somewhere on this thread earlier, as I do not have the time to go over all 237 pages to find the answer. I have a second, older laptop whose CD, DVD, audio and wireless drivers do not work anymore, but the graphics and video drivers are still in tact. I want to transfer the needed files to that, and install LuxRender there, so I can resume FLMs there, while setting up more Daz scenes in my current laptop. Do I need to transfer all of my Daz Studio runtimes into the second laptop, or will the LuxRender Resource files be enough?

If you check the "Collect textures" checkbox in the output tab, and copy that along with the Lux files, you should be able to run or resume on another machine. Otherwise, you'll have to have a duplicate of the Runtime so Lux will be able to find the texture paths. Collecting textures is a bit easier I would say :-)

As stated, select the Collect Textures option, and the copy the folder with the texture files and the files generated for Lux. You will need to open the *.lxs file in a text editor (e.g. Notepad) and change the string filename line so it lists just the name itself, e.g:

From "string filename" ["F:/Renders/Without You"] to "string filename" ["Without You"]

Interesting one thing I do enjoy about Reality lux is how well lighting works. I just had Lux native save my bacon again after a PLY file went into an infinate Sud D loop. Setting it to native aborted the sub d & let the scene actually load & render
