OT Paolo since you are involved with this project you may know. I am got the email and reading about dawn coming in a few weeks. I read where it says that it will be followed by Dawn supported content. Was not of the concept of Dawn to work with exising Genesis/ V4 content? If so how will it work in DS weight mapping auto fit like DS?? What about applying texture maps?

I can't say much about it because I'm under NDA. The whole point of Dawn is to be a new, modern figure that is using weight-mapping, that has advanced joints, and that works natively in both Poser and Studio.

The market has been suffering from a lack of new characters that use modern technologies and that work both in Poser and Studio. The issue with Genesis is that it doesn't work in Poser natively. There is the DSON plugin, but it's really not a solution. It's extremely slow, it has a lot of issues, and the whole workflow is simply cumbersome. Think if you needed to have a special plugin in order to use a figure in Studio. Would you like it? No, it's just not a the right solution.

With V4 we don't have to do anything complicated. You double-click on the thumbnail and she loads in your scene. No fuss, no muss. V4 was, and still is the success that she is because people have the freedom to use her in the application that they prefer and she appears at the same quality in both applications.

Content developers create so many products for V4 because they know they can sell them to both Poser and Studio users.  It's an ideal situation.

With Dawn we return to that scenario. You prefer Studio, then you get the Studio version, double-click on her thumbnail and she appears in your scene. Pose her, clothe her and you are in business. You prefer working with Poser, you get the Poser version and go on your business. No fiddling with additional software, no bogged-down machine. Just a great figure that works natively in your application of choice.

The users benefit, the market benefits and we can go back to making art, which is what we want to do.

Cheers.

I didn't try it but I have it in my wishlist because it should work. As long as the droplets are made of real geometric elements then you should be able to convert them to the Water material.

It is very likely that a lot of products will be adapted and re-issued. I have no advanced knwoledge of that but it makes sense from a market point of view. In that case it might be that we will get updated clothing that will fit the new figure.

For sure is that, going forward, we will have more options and that is a good thing.

These are exciting times.

I remember reading that this one of the key points it was going to have over something like G2 is having existing content work I am just curious to how they are going to go about it. I would go do some reading but am busy with some RL stuff for the next week or so. I was just trying to get some quick info..

I had to return the full shape bundle by Zev since the moving toes on Genesis prevent the shoes from working...

Quote - > Quote - The secret to make hair more realistic is to break the surface. Since the hair prop is not made of individual strands it naturally lends to be rendered as a solid surface, which gives the "helmet" look that you mentioned.  Hair is fairly glossy, see all the shampoo commercials, so you want the glossiness/specular color to be fairly high.

Then you need a good bump map and crank it up, way up. I generally get it around -0.004/0.004 or around there with strength at 100%.

How do you break the surface, and would a normal map do instead of a bump map?

Opacity... many of the hair sets I don't like have horride opacities that seem gradual.  Rather than sudden.

BradHP ( ) posted Wed, 10 July 2013 at 11:37 AM

I haven't done much in the past few months so I'm doing some simple stuff to get back into it.  Hair settings based off what Paolo said a few posts back. I used -.01/.01 at 100% and that's something I've never been sure of, which numbers are actually the stronger setting?

You posted -0.004/0.004.  I used -0.01/0.01.  I've never been sure which way the numbers affect the bump.  Am I going stronger, weaker, or is there barely a difference between those two?

I hope this isn't an odd question for the topic of this thread but, I own Reality 2 for Daz, but I also own Poser and I just saw you have an option for buying Reality 3 for Poser as a 'sidegrade' if you already own Reality 2. But what I was curious about is, does that invalidate the Reality 2 license? In other words, if I upgrade, will I still be able to continue using Reality 2 with Daz and also have Reality 3 for Poser?

Sorry for the late reply, I'm behind on my forum viewing. While I don't have the water fx prop, I do have Flink's rain. It subdivides fine in studio with SubD and transfers well through reality to Lux as either standard glass or water with 0 wave. It tends to scale badly if you want that 3D rain (only in larger scenes of course!) I used it in this one awhile ago and didn't notice the scale issue 'til afterwards. Oops!

In the dA page where you have the image right-click on the image and select "Copy Image URL" (in Chrome, other browsers might use different text).

When you insert the image in the post paste that URL and in the Advanced tab select a smaller size. That will place the image in the post. Click on the image to select it and then add a link. Paste the URL of the image again for the link.

The final result will be to have a smaller image in the post which leads to the full image, not the dA page.

Off topic a bit.. but that's why I'm REALLY loving poser 2014.  With the tighten and loosen fit morph brushes.. I can put anything on anything.. been using a lot of my older Aiko3 and V3 stuff with V4 lately and loving it.  It's a bit more work than studio's autofit.. but there's so much more flexibility.  I can now make clothes fit like they're supposed to a lot easier than with d-form.  I mentally thank Paolo every time I load up a new character for putting that particular bug in my ear.  Otherwise my using poser again would have lasted about a week.  Even my wife is finding it pretty easy to use.

Sharkbytes-BamaScans ( ) posted Sat, 27 July 2013 at 7:20 AM

Quote - > Quote - For mw, the issue with Dawn is going to be the availability of outfits, are the products just going to be a re-hash of items already availaible for V4 and G1? Is she going to have an autofit or convert option for V4 things? Or do you have to purchase a complete range of clothing, morphs and textures?

While I have no special connections with the Dawn product it is important to remember how the market is going to be affected by Poser 10 new Fitting Room. That feature is going to change the market for both Poser and Studio users alike.

If you're note familair with it, the Fitting Room allows anybody to fit any garment to any figure while preserving rigid shapes (buttons, collars, belts etc) and the original morphs. The result is a new conforming garment that fits the new figure. The whole operation takes a few minutes and makes it possible for the authors of the original clothing to expand their offering to any new figure.

It is expected that existing products will be updated to take advantage of new figures.

Personally I believe that Dawn is the best development that happened in the market since the introduction of V4. I'm looking forward to working with it.

Cheers.

My thing with the whole poser fitting room is that it's huuuuuge for poser users.  I'm one of the fastest people I know with learning and mastering new software or new tweaks to existing software that I use and I'm finding it cumbersome and hard to figure out.  I can't find any decent documentation on what does what.  As a former chef.. I found with cooking that (other than spices) any time you have more than five ingredients in a dish the chances for collossal errors increases exponentially with each additional ingredient.  This philosophy has applied to software as well.  With the fitting room.. I get out my milk, eggs and sugar and then I'm at a complete loss as to what to do with them.  I'm desperately awaiting some kind poser super-user to make some decent comprehensive tutes for the fitting room.  Until then, the loosen fit/tighten fit brushes are indispensible.

Sharkbytes-BamaScans ( ) posted Sat, 27 July 2013 at 8:03 AM

Doc.. I'm using it exclusively now (that's why I've been silent in this thread for quite a while) and have been since about a week after PP2014 came out.  I used poser for years so the re-learning it wasn't so hard; and it's been a blast.  I'm back to just loving poser instead of having a love-hate relationship with it.  I had gotten sucked into the genesis trap with studio and I'd forgotten just how versatile vicky is.  No wonder the price on her hasn't dropped much on daz since she was released.  As far as rendering goes.. luxrender is luxrender is luxrender.  Doesn't seem to me what you set the scene up with, if reality is translating the materials and lux is rendering it, the results SHOULD be the same.

Where I come to a screeching halt sometimes is with the collection of materials that I have.  I have nearly every material set made by tabala and parrotdolphin.  Some of these use a pretty extensive node setup and reality just doesn't like them at all.  A bit of tweaking (sometimes extensive tweaking) is needed to be done on a few other things as well.  For example, for Mihrelle's Elena character, if you set a lipstick color and just let 'er rip, the lips will render out grey.  I've yet to be able to get her lips to render the correct lipstick color either in studio OR poser.

On the plus side.... I have a pretty big collection of tattoos for vicky (shana's entire inked series as well as some ones I custom-made myself) and these are a breeze to apply with reality's color math ability.  I'm a material room novice so all of my own tatts I applied to the figure's original texture and just saved a copy.  Don't have to do that any more.  Just apply to the right material zone via color math/multiply.  Set the color to the full white background that's used on the tatts material and let 'er rip.  I did this with Kymber in the Studio and Nude 015.  I haven't gotten into it yet, but in reality you can even use the u and v offset to move those tatts around on the body.

I was a poser hater for the entire time I was using studio.. and I understand that I'm being rather fickle.. but I'm loving poser right now.  At least until they do something to break it.  Fortunately SM isn't as prone to break their products as Daz is.
