Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 27 9:18 am)
It's not normal.
Are you running a sim?
Generally, your figure should start out in the standard t-pose in first frame, and the pose you want is in frame 30 or later. The clothing should fit in the first frame without poke-through.
Some pieces need some drape frames first, some don't. Try 10 drape frames.
When the simulation is running, can you see poke through immediately, or only after it is run?
If your cloth has any morphs on it, make sure that the morphs are set as you like for frame 1 only, and then reset to 0 from frame 2 onwards.
You can increase the number of calculations per frame to increase the accuracy of the simulation and also increase the likelyhood that the sim will pull cloth back out of the body.
Inside the simulation options there are 3 tick boxes
Object Vertex against Cloth Polygon
Object Polygon against Cloth Polygon
Cloth Self Collision
If you have a relatively low resolution cloth model, you will want to tick the first two to ensure that large polygons on the cloth do not allow part of the figure to poke through due to lack of detail in the cloth object.
Sometimes when you load in cloth, it may not be exactly int he right position and have a small part of the figure already intersecting the cloth before the simulation is run. this can cause cloth to get permanently stuck inside the figure. Check to make sure there is nothing intersecting between the cloth and what it is colliding with. If you have to modify the pose of the figure to make them fit together, remember to turn off "start draping from zero pose" in the collide with dialogue.
Thats about all I can give you without further information

Im sorry vitachick I dont understand, what do you need help with? Poke through?
Chuck up a render of the problem (or screeny of the preview window) that should help to figure out what the issue is

I also would like to change the color of the shirt to plain white..Opened up material room and there are so many nodes I am totally confused. Just changing it to white didn't do anything..

Each time you change any scale, rotation, translation or morphs on any object or figure that interacts with the close (like the person) you will need to run the simulation again to see the cloth drape to the new configuration.
The easiest way to make it white is to go into the material room, right click in a blank area, choose select all. then press the delete key. After that make sure diffuse is white and specular is white.
A good bit of advice is to create a blank white material like this that suits you, and save it to your material library. that way you have a quick and easy way to reset a materal!

Thanks to everyone for replying to this discussion - lots of good info here. I did at last get both items I was working on to drape correctly. I had missed the info in the readme of one stating how to use to morph tool to fix lasting poke through.

The second one worked when I used a different pose, not sure why that is.
However, when I saved the pz3 in both cases it messed up the clothes. Is there a way to save a work in progress when using dynamic clothes?
thanks again,

check your preferences to see if Use File Compression is turned on in the misc section. Every now and then I load up a scene with dynamic cloth and it has become corrupted, meaning I need to run the sim again.
If this keeps getting in the way, and you just want to save the "final" position of the cloth (whatever frame that may be) I do the following :
Move to "final" frame of animation
Select cloth object
Choose file->export->wavefront obj
Tick "Existing groups in polygon groups" this will ensure any cloth/hair/non material groups are not discarded
Clear your cloth simulation and hide the cloth object
choose file->import->wavefront obj
Untick scale to 100% of figure size, centre object and place object on floor
This will save a "snapshot" of your cloth and then import just that snapshot. you could delete the old one if you wanted, and its simulation. But only do that if you are SURE you dont want any changes!
Was the first pose you used (that failed on the second object) have extreme joint bends? for example hands on the head has the inside of the elbows intersecting each other, or sitting cross legged on the ground has the back of the knees intersection each other. Under the arms in a "stand to attention" type pose intersects with the body. Where ever these body intersections occur you have the possibility (likely) of the simulation going haywire due to the cloth being caught.
The simulator does have code to allow for this, and sometimes Poser's implementation works, however if the trapped polygons have more force excherted on them than fold/shear/strech and frictions allow the sim will go crazy. you can tell when this happens because a frames calculation time with increase 10 fold. sometimes the slightest of adjustments fixes it (lowering fold or shear or stretch by .1)
There are methods to get around this, but they are not for the beginner ;)

Quote - > Quote - Ok will contact the vender since there are no shirt mat options available..
You looked in the Materials folder? :)
Laurie
Vender replied quickly! He said no it cannot be changed in the material folder. He made me a new mat... Awesome..What a sweetheart!!

I decided to get brave and try to get dynamic clothes to work using Poser 7. So far zero success. I downloaded two different items from free stuff and followed the directions with each. One came with a tutorial the other just written directions. I tried several different poses also tried not using any body morphs. Poke through in each instance. Is this normal? Is there a way to avoid it?
thanks
