Subject: Reality 3 - Does it support Scale of image map

If I havea  Poser texture, that is (for example) a checkerboard pattern...in poser I can change the U_scale and V_scale to affect the size of the checkerboard pattern on the clothes I apply it to.  (the u_scale and v_scale on the image map node)

I don't seem to be getting this coming over into Reality?

Is it somewhere I am missing?  I only see "scale" referenced once in the docs, and its not in regards to this.

You're not missing it. Ther U_Scale/V_Scale paramaters are not read at this time.

Thanks for the quick reply, Paolo!  Any future plans to add?  This affects some of the really nice materials resources that are available for users to apply to their clothing props.

Oh yeas, it was just an oversight. It will be added in a future update. The next update is already locked because we are finsihing the tests. With the one after that we can add the scaling. In the meantime you can work around this by entering the values by hand. What Poser calls scaling is "tiling" in Reality ( and in many other softwares ).

If you have a scale of 0.5 in Poser that is a tiling value of 2.0 in Reality. Basically Poser uses a number that is "How much we reduce the size to fit in the UV map" and Reality/Lux uses a value that says "How many times we repeat the texture in the UV Map".

Hope this helps.

In other words, you can get the Reality tiling by diving 1.0 by the Poser scale:

RealityTiling = 1.0 / PoserScale

Cheers.

Do you mean to open the exported LXS file, find and manually add a tiling setting in all the lines that apply to that material across all of the material zones for that clothing item?

No, I would never suggest that. Just enter the values in the Reality texture editor.

  • In Reality click on the texture to open the texture editor

  • In the lower part of the T.E. you can find the tiling field

  • Enter the values as explained.

Hope this helps.

Oh, I found it.  I was looking on the Image Map node, and did not see it, but it was at the bottom of the "mix" node.

Now I see in some cases you have to "drill down" through to get to the one that has it.

Thanks!

Note: You probably have not run into it, but those scales can be modulated. If something is plugged in a simple number isn't going to work. Not many people do that, but I do.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Thank you Ted for the note. Yes, if a textures is plugged in there there will be no good way of doing a conversion because Lux does not support using a texture for that value anyway.

Cheers.
