Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
That's how it's done works for me anyway make a plane ane a deformer scale the deformer etc add a splotchy displacement reflection maps for chop and a sky dome (The open water gets it's mood from the sky). Render delecto

So is that TTFN or TANSTAAFL?
I use an animated texture, it works really well, but I can't remember where I got it. I think it's from this collection http://www.doschdesign.com/products/textures/Animated_Water.html , but since I only have one of the 25 in the pack, it was probably a demo or limited time freebie.
There are some free animated textures here http://www.dgp.toronto.edu/people/stam/reality/Research/PeriodicCaustics/index.html that may be of interest to you.
looks like someone made a prop for you ;-)
but poser can use a movie file so making a greyscale movie and appling it to displacment channel "may" work, would need a paint proggy that does animation (lots do)
I would do same as BardicHeart and drop to blender make a mesh and a morph or 2 (13!! man your spoiing me ;-) rofl)
How about the Wave deformer in Poser? It can be animated and everything.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
The mesh is 3600 quad faces, large enough to fill an olympic (Poser scale) pool or a nice sized section of a bay. I haven't tried using it to do animation in Poser yet; partly because I'm busy with other things atm, and also because I'm not real familiar with doing animations in Poser. I also need to learn more about Poser's MAT nodes, that was the best water I could manage on short notice. Its passable but could be better. I also am not sure how to set up volumetric effects, I know it can be done but again something I've not done in Poser. The prop is not UV mapped as the MATs seem to work better without it. There's no displacement or bump mapping either, that's pure morph for the shape.
But so far as models, no problem. Just waiting on feedback from Mike, if this is close to what he needs I'll set it up as a Poser ready prop and upload it to free stuff.
But hey, finally I made a prop for poser that renders without issues! ROFL
Hi Guys
Yes that's exactly what I'm talking about.
I want just a small swell running across the screen with a slight transparency and a greenish blue grey texture like a tidal pool kind of thing.
More like the wind blowing the water, then surf.
I can take care of the textute, but I have no idea how to create the plane to apply it to.
I downloaded one of the water textures from Captain Mark's post, it would make a great starting point for the texture, it has just the look I was picturing.

No problem, I'll zip the plane up as a Poser ready prop today and put it in free stuff. The prop I created has morphs for various small ripples which I think adds an bit of realism. There are two kinds of ripples, morphs 1-4 do a more choppy type. Morphs 5-8 do long ripples more like wind blowing the water. I did play around with animating them and it does work for that. Set 4 key frames and you get a nice effect. There's also a single swell done with 5 morphs that can give you a swell with a start point and an end point which Poser can then animate with key frames. How big a swell depends on how much you apply the morph. It goes from small swell to "lets drown Posette".
And of course its works fine with the wave deformer. Adding one of the 8 ripple morphs adds some extra detail to it that I think also adds a touch of realism.
Look forward to seeing what you do with it.
Hi
It seems to be some glitch in my browser, none of the links on the page are working.
I'll get it sorted out.
I've been having a lot of problems with Google Chrome lately.
I always have problems with IE, (it won't load my Comcast Home Page or Renderosity for some reason, all of this started with Windows 8) I'm going to install Firefox and see if it works better.
I never did get a message through SiteMail, I just checked and it says "No new Messages".

If you shoot a mime, do you need a silencer?
Hi
I used the ripples with one wave running through the water from left to right in the middle of the 10 second clip.
I had the same start and end point and repeated it when I put it together in Premiere..
I'm going to do some experimenting with it now but I wanted to get something together and animate to see how it worked.
There are enough options to make a lot of variations so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Hi
I've done water by creating a plane with a water texture and then making is slightly transparent in the past, and I've moved the plain up and down slightly to simulate the level changing.
But what if I wanted a gentle swell to move through the water across the screen.
I think I could be accomplish this by making a plane that wasn't flat, kind of a very slight corrugation or wave in it, and having it move slowly across the screen but don't know how I would come up with a plane like that.
Anyone ever tried anything like this?
