You can access the log file through help troubleshooting log file if you haven't found it.
I've tried the shader preset and it's working okay for me, just to double check your selecting an object and surface then applying the Uber Volume dust Shader preset.
You may need to look in the log file to see what the issue is. If you can find the relevant section post it here and I can have a look for you if you would like.

Ok still fighting with it...
I went to use one of the presets the "uber volumn dust"
but all it did was give me the error message that there was an issue and to check the logs....
Is there a trick of using this?
