I need to get some images where an adult female mannequin is needed. was looking at the Ball Joint Doll here by MayaX and the Ball Jointed Doll by Darkseal over at ContentParadise. Darkseal has only a head shot of his figure in the store (which looks cute but not enough visual fodder to get me to consider it further so I am looking more seriously at the one in the store here by MayaX. What I need to know is how much support is there for his product out there and if there are enough dials available with the figure to create an adult female mannequin. Also what is the difference between the first BJ Doll and Version2? I have asked but not gotten clear response yet. Any help from product users would be appreciated.

Version 2 has a continuous chest, abdomen, and hip. It's a great figure, I think. Peculiar and unique. There's content for it... most of which has been lost to the sands of time. As far as an adult version, bjd type 1 comes with a low and high poly version. Compared to most human figures the high poly version is low poly. Neither the low or high versions come with any body shaping morphs. Type 2 has some body shaping morphs that will allow you to give it a more adult appearance and can utilize maya and anime doll heads. I've collected most things for bjd over the years, and I gotta tell you there isn't a whole lot out there even if you were to have a time machine. I know you're not a do it yourself type of Poser user shante, that is you probably wouldn't want to jump through a lot of hoops for the figure... it's something to consider. That being said I highly recommend bjd by MayaX san, the basic package is well worth the money in terms of a unique figure that comes with a limited (but well made) amount of content. As far as Darkseal goes, pbbbt. No comment.

If you do pick up bjd let me know, I'd be more than willing to help you with the figure. I'm nearing the end of a long project and I'll have some free time to work on some custom things (morphs, textures, or customized .cr2) for the figure if you're interested.

haha! i guess i been in this community too long. everyone knows i don't know poop from shinola with regards to poser higher end usage...so you are right, out of the box functionality is important to me. Frankly, I am just not sure how I have managed to get as far as I have gotten creating my 3D images (in some cases even so far as being published and/or award winning images) since I have no head for all the best tools in Poser I should know how to use by now. Really depressing thinking how much better my work could be had I been able to wrap my dead gray matter around it all. However, as par for me, still not sure which i should get. not as if they are cheap figures. in all the years they have been available i have never, ever seen the BJ Doll on any sale. so if i am going to plunk my hard to make change down it better at least give me what i need out of the box: an adult-ish shaped ball jointed female. hi res is no problem compared to mil4 figures i am sure the res of the HR version is small but it needs to at the VERY LEAST have those adult shaping morphs or it is no use to me.

What is a "continuous head abdomen and hip" mean?

I remember downloading a lot of stuff (ALL FREE CONTENT) for both BJDoll and MAYADOLL whenever it came out way-back-when. I was a greedy little Poser Piggie. Despite knowing even then, I would probably NEVER USE the stuff (and didn't!). But it is all buried on cds somewhere and having thousands of them i am loathe to sit and shuffle through all of them looking for stuff.

uhm...what does "pbbt" mean with regards to darkseal?

Do you have either and if so can you whip me up a few renders from different angles showing the base functions of an adult version of the figure?

Darkseal's manga doll is not a bjd, it's a very westernized anime style figure, not articulated like a doll. I have manga doll and his cherry for nearme.

I think we are referring to different products. Actually his BallJointed Doll (which I think is relatively new) is supposed to be a Ball jointed figure judging from the shoulders showing in the product sample (though why he chose just a CU of the head instead of showing some full body renders to market it is way beyond me). That is one thing I have never gotten over in all the years i have seen products offered in the community. It is hard enough to make the products but if you do NOT include good renders in the product promos showing the best features of the figure, clothes, hair or whatever, you are ROBBING YOURSELF out of sales potential.

Aside from having been a photographer/illustrator/graphic designer, I have a background in art direction and marketing which I humbly feel qualifies me in some way to talk about this. I can't say how damn important it is to properly show products in their best lights to increase sales. Content providers swallow the mule in creating their product and choke up on the tail in marketing. Also, would be best to properly/intelligently offering add-on stuff later supporting the product with more content alternatives. This is especially important for independent/stand-alone figures. I used to buy these and regretted it because they were always plain and never supported in the community or shamelessly by the artist themselves. Those few stand-alone figures that endured had that following and support even if just from the original creator.

Anyway, sorry for the tirade. Just a grit in my craw i need to hack up! Thanks for your responses.

Some artists get so damn belligerent refusing to see the value in that mind set when I bring it up I want to run screaming off a cliff!!!. Frustrates the hell out of me. I really don't give a sheitz if they make a bundle of money or not (which as an artist of sorts myself, I think they should) but i do care when I purchase a product that does not have what I had to guess it did only to find out after i have purchased it, it falls short of even the basic points/expectations, I feel like killing them for false advertising. Luckily lately sites like DAZ offer a complete money back guarantee and i am pretty sure RDNA as well as Renderosity do as well. But it is still a real hassle.

Mmm. Yeah, I work in the arts myself, different medium. Education in that realm also. 3D is kinda an obsessive hobby for me. I haven't looked at any of Darkseal's more recent products and won't bother.

Are those pen and ink drawings in your portfolio here? Nice work either way. I used to do illustration work in pen and ink....mainly crow quill and Rapid-o-graph tech pens on gloss coat paper, illustration board and two sided frosted mylar. Of course I was doing a lot more drugs then that actually kept me focused enough to actually finish some pieces. Gav it all up when i quit smokin! :(

Dude how the hell do yo "quit quitting"? I have no concept of that. I no longer know what to call myself. I was "an Artist" for so many damn years when I could not continue I had no idea what the hell I am....and because for so long it was all so enmeshed the what and the who, I don't know who i am either. Fucking hurts. Too old to start over so it has become easier to bury my head and forget about it all. but its true it is not possible to forget and avoid the feelings of loss and desire that i feel will always be with me now.

Meh, I don't do hard drugs anymore, and rarely drink unless I have a surplus of income and/or horny and bored. Wanderlust and whatnot. I was quite addicted to amphetamines and booze for a while, decades actually... Coffee, weed, and art (of all kinds) are my major vices now. I've managed to compartmentalize my priorities as I grow old.

As far as the art thing goes... I was born that way. It runs in the family, along with a myriad of dark shit. It's the only constructive thing this life has really given me. We do what we must, or... to thine own self be true (pretentious, but... whatevah).

Have those, though I have not tried them.....(damn I have so much Poser shit I can't keep track of everything I have!).......but they do not look too much like ball jointed mannequins. I am going to use them now that I remember having them but still not ball jointed.

I read all the GOR books and the only thing I remember was how badly they were written. The author took a cool story line and stretched it and over-worded it to death making it annoying to read. If someone else had edited them and abbreviated them substantially I would have enjoyed them more.
