Subject: strange question?

shante ( ) posted Thu, 19 November 2015 at 4:31 PM · edited Sat, 10 August 2024 at 3:24 AM

Working in Poser Pro 2014 and in working with hair I am getting frustrated with the red guide lines that appear when hair props and characters are selected. I just cant see what the dials are doing when trying tofit hair products especially to figures not designed for. To see the changes I have to click away from the hair and re-select if further changes are required. Is there any way to turn this stupid red mesh highlight/guide lines off?

also, there are many hair products that appear as a mesh in the stage and frustrating as hell placing these figures/props on a head. Also have to be rendered to see what they are doing. How can these products be mae more visible for placement/posing before rendering?

For hairs that load in wireframe_ if a figure select body of hair/or Neck: Display: Figure Style: choose display style. For a prop/.hr2: Element Style. Sometimes transparency will require different display styles depending. I usually temporarily 0 transparency for trans mapped hair. Selection lines? S*** out of luck on that one.

Oh I know that but even with the transparency turned off I still get a white mesh line until it is rendered despite what display mode i use.

I don't know how it is in 2014, but in 2012 and other versions, you can set such things as line thickness in the Pose window by going into the Rendering options tab and changing the settings in the Preview render.

shante ( ) posted Thu, 19 November 2015 at 6:22 PM

yeah but how does that get rid of the red line you see?

EldritchCellar ( ) posted Thu, 19 November 2015 at 6:31 PM

It doesn't.

You have to fiddle around with different body part displays alot of times with hairs before you find the global switch for it, I know exactly what you're talking about and it's a confusing mess toggling different figure/element styles with hair models. So it goes...

:(

Sorry. :) I'll have to take a look at it, either in 2012 or the new one. I don't mess with dynamic hair at all, on purpose. :)

Note: I was just thinking, trying to figure out what is being discussed.

Are we talking about "object origin" lines? If so, that can be turned off in the object properties box or in the joint editor, IIRC. Rendering options can also be customized per object/figure/scene lement in the Display pane. Lastly, if this is a property that can not be toggled from within Poser, it might help to temporarily change the Preview Drawing renderer from OpenGL to SREED, the object being to see if a different renderer improves visibility.

Nah, I think he's talking about just regular hair models and the red selection outline that occurs when you click on something. Can't get rid of that or even change color AFAIK.

Wait... in 2014 and later, the object stays highlighted, even though you aren't mouse-hovering on it? o.O

One thing you can do is choose to remove one of those features, that big figure/object selection/posing "Circle" thingie. IIRC, it's in the poser "General Preferences" area. That thing can get annoying and, who knows, maybe it will remove this feature in 2014+?

Yeah, you can toggle the figure circle in the figure dropdown in guides, don't have Poser open at the moment so just using memory. It's in one of the dropdowns. He's aggravated by the selection lines when he's manipulating hair far as I can tell... so if you're constantly clicking something that selection guide will keep popping up I suppose.

right that's it. So, no fix? Freaking sucks!

You can use the parameter dials to fit, though you'll end up having to move the cameras a bit to view as you do it. The last object stays highlighted until you pick something else which in turn highlights. You can simply move your mouse somewhere else off of the prop/hair onto one of the non preview area of the screen if it drives you bonkers.

The dust settled, thinking "what a fine home, at least for now" not realizing that doom would soon be coming in the form of a vacuum cleaner.

I think Poser is like the only 3d app in existance that doesn't let you change selection highlighting color. Another one of those weird things, like Poser's universe scale.

Ot but, you know what would be a cool addition to poser? Morph on off toggle in parameters, a little eye icon next to each morph. Click eye closed: 0 value, eye open: 1.00 value. Probably a stupid idea but when you're creating and loading and testing many custom morphs, would be handy.

Another thing that drives me crazy is:

  1. sometimes the damn parameter dials/info dials disappear and I have to relaunch Poser to get them back
  2. when you ask for hidden parameter dials and then click to shut them off they don't or all the parameter dials disappear with them. A pain in the arse

I do use the dials but when the object is selected it stays selected with all that red selection line mess and you can't really see what the heck is going on even when zoomed in tight on the object. You have to click away to shut the lines off. Really slows things down.
