Subject: M4 Texture Seam Issue

jbearnolimits ( ) posted Sun, 14 August 2016 at 8:44 PM · edited Thu, 30 January 2025 at 9:04 PM

So I'm using Poser 8 and have been working on making some photoshop files for quick and easy texture creation. I have V4 finished and all worked out fine. But M4 seems to be giving me trouble. Actually it is the seams themselves. It seems like no matter what I do there is always this seam showing up.

It doesn't matter what color I make it, the seam just ends up being that color. If I bring the color deeper into the texture and further away from the edges it is fine, but that doesn't make a good image. So here is an example of what I am talking about. I colored the border white to make the seam show up a little better. m4 texture problem.jpg

Here is a little more information:

This is the image with my texture on it. I circle the problem area in red. mytext.jpg

This is something I noticed to. It seems like the M4 figure has a bit of a problem right out of the box too. daz.jpg

Here are the material settings for both simple and advanced. material1.jpgmaterial2.jpg

This is the key to texture creation you need to extend the edges and match them as best you can. The masters do it so well. I am still learning this part myself. There are a couple merchant resource products here in the marketplace that helps, unfortunately they are made for V4 not M4. But the technique is still the same. I am not at my work system at the moment. I will provide more information tomorrow.

Thanks Boni, I hope to hear from you soon then. Oh by the way, I'm just focused on the neck right now and that is why the arms are different. I haven't done them yet.

As far as I remember it is a general problem of M4 in earlier Poser versions. Try to change your render settings to a shading rate of 0.5 and pixel samples to 4, may be the figures are not correct as in Poser 11 i can't reproduce this.

For both the head and torso, look at each image map node, and set the filtering to none. Do a test render and see if that helps.

Load M4 obj file in Blender. Load your textures in their material zones. Use the texture paint tools to correct your textures at the seams. Blender allows to paint directly on the figure, and then resave your textures.

Repaint in the main viewport with Symmetry ON, so you only have to correct one side, (the other is mirrored automatically)

A final point or two, which I'm surprised nobody else has made, never use the "Simple" view in the Material room. It's pretty much useless. Also, turn off Reflect_Lite_Mult. It's a holdover from ancient times and makes your renders look lousy. Black and white bump maps go in Bump, not Gradient Bump. That's for the old Red/Green BUM or for Normal maps.

You have some better resolutions here than spending a lot of money on something if you don't plan on making your own characters. IF that is your plan, let me know. These guys know what they are talking about.
