Subject: How do I import the scene I bought into Poser

Taomation ( ) posted Thu, 10 November 2016 at 4:28 PM · edited Wed, 12 February 2025 at 9:47 AM

Hi Guys,

Not exactly new to Poser, but haven't used it in a while and don't buy things for it that often. I purchased the residential scene from here in Renderosity. I downloaded it and unzipped it and placed the opened zips in the downloaded file in Poser under scenes, but it's not showing. Can someone please tell me what I did that was wrong. Thanks in advance. Cheers...Ian

Those don't always work for me either. What I do is:

File>Import>Poser Document/Prop

and locate where the prop is stored then click open and it loads it into your scene.

But then it's just one prop, right? And not the whole scene...

SpookieLilOne ( ) posted Thu, 10 November 2016 at 5:02 PM

No, it will load the whole scene even lighting if it's included, I use it all the time for scenes from danie & morforno.

Hi Jamie,

I tried it but nothing seemed to come up. There are tons of objects which one do I need to choose? Also, am I doing the initial import correctly and it's just not working or did I do something wrong. Thanks...Ian

Taomation ( ) posted Thu, 10 November 2016 at 7:56 PM

I tried it again and just got one prop. Aggravating...?

The scene tab is basically for saving your own scenes and WIPs. There are very few vendor sets which contain actual prepackaged scenes for you. Danie & Marforno usually include complete scene setups along with their content.

Miss B ( ) posted Thu, 10 November 2016 at 11:16 PM

I don't have this set, but I just checked the product page and it lists the following 2 items under Package Content:

  • 1 complete preloaded city with vegetation
  • 1 complete preloaded city without vegetation

That means you CAN load the whole city.

That said, how was the zip file set up? Where there more than one folder in the zip file within the Runtime folder? IOW, these seem to be a large set of props (.pp2 files), and therefore probably should be in the Runtime > Libraries > Props folder. The full preloaded scenes, however, may be .cr2 files, and should be in the Runtime > Libraries > Character folder.

If you can give us an idea of the folder setup in the zip file, we'll be able to better tell you exactly where the files should be installed within your Poser's runtime.

Does the set come with a load all type option in the scene folder? If so that is what you want to import not the obj from geometries...

Hi Guys,

Thanks for te response and the late reply. Here are some screen shots of the file set-up. I tried moving them into different locations as suggested, but it hasn't worked for me yet. If you can spot what I'm doing wrong, I would appreciate it. Thanks...Ian

you have to unzip the zip files INTO the poser runtime.. Poser can't read zips open the zip files, one at a time and drag the contente in Runtime! They may ask if they should overwrite other files. choose yes. No data will be lost.

Happy Rendering!

Hi Andy, and thanks for the response. Could you be more specific as to what exactly I need to do. I thought that they were already unzipped. Are you saying that I need to pull all the obj files into one place in the runtime? Thanks...Ian

donnena ( ) posted Wed, 23 November 2016 at 10:11 PM

HI!

I'm saying that you need to open the zip files and drag & drop the contents of the zips to your runtime....

If you just unzip and copy the contents to your runtime, everything will end up where it needs to be! (We test this!!)

if your item were Actually installed, you would NOT see the different parts... or the guid at the end of the file name. The contents of the 4 zip files would flow into your runtime and the items would be usable!

I think I might know what the problem is. I didn't have a clue as to to how to unzip these files properly? So I watched a tutorial and I think that I understand that I need to go to my content page and unzip from there and use INSTALL FROM ZIP ARCHIVE which I did, but I notice that the files that I want to unzip don't make the open button turn blue so that I can unzip them. The button will only turn blue and import if I hold down on the click button for a couple of seconds and then it will light up and I can ask it to unzip. Which would be fine, but nothing seems to happen after I've completed the unzip. Nothing seems to show up in the folder DOWNLOADS which is where I put it. Any ideas? Thanks...Ian

Taomation ( ) posted Thu, 24 November 2016 at 12:31 AM

What folder in the Runtime should they go in?

Taomation ( ) posted Thu, 24 November 2016 at 12:34 AM

And should there be any folders (like the runtime folder) or should I just dump all the objs in there?

Whoa, before doing anything else, let's examine exactly what this package contains. In the product readme, we have props, geometries, cameras, lights, and textures listed which tells us none of these files should go into Poser's Scene folder. The basic instructions recommend unzipping into a folder containing a runtime. Fair enough. This means if I do a simple extraction with a Zip utility program to a Poser linked folder, i.e., Download, everything will install in it's right place. No manual transfer of files/folders in this case. Straight forward installation. You should see all your Poser file icons under Props, Cameras, and Lights. This is as simple as it gets.

Word of caution, if you are using any OS as Vista of higher, you cannot install content in the parent Poser folder in Program Files. You may never see your content because of security constrains. Install content to a shared folder location and make sure that this folder is linked to Poser.

Taomation ( ) posted Thu, 24 November 2016 at 1:01 PM

I appreciate your response, but really need very specific instructions, take this folder or file and move it to this folder kind of thing. I don't really understand the nomenclature or really the concept of what a Runtime is. To me, right now it's just a folder and I need to know exactly where to put things and if they will stay in folders or not.

I don't know enough to completely grasp what you are saying.

Thanks again for your response and everyone else who has responded. I truly appreciate it.

PS If there are any video links out there that explains this stuff please let me know. Poser doesn't seem to have a lot of videos about it.

Just to give you a rudimentary understanding, a runtime folder contains all the subfolders and files which are associated to content in your Poser Library. As an example, I screencaptured Poser's Download runtime from my Poser 11 Pro content folder which is entirely empty of content. I have my own external runtimes and do not use this particular location. Notice the path at highlight 1 which shows the typical subfolder breakdown of any content runtime. The Downloads folder is the primary, or parent, folder that contains a runtime subfolder and subsequently another subfolder called libraries. The Libraries folder contains a series of subfolders that appear in your Poser Library, as illustrated in highlight 2. This is the base structure of any content folder regardless of it's name, as long as there is a folder called runtime within it.

Here is another, rather messy, content folder in which I place my Victoria 4 items. Despite the fact that there are many more folders floating around that runtime, there is still the basic structure of folders present which may, or may not, have content associated items. This is illustrated below, and again, these base folders now containing content will appear in your Poser Library.

Additional subfolders can be found in a runtime which support associated content; these files will either be object geometry, textures or delta morphs, files essential for how characters/props appear and behave in Poser. In the illustration below, the geometries and textures folders are additional support folders which appear at the same level as libraries.

Now let's look at a zip, or compressed, file. In the illustration, I am using Winrar as my compression/decompression program, in this case, I am looking at free, downloaded content call "EvaXstarterPoses.zip". Notice the folder content of this zip, 1 documentation folder and 1 runtime folder.

image.png

I believe this is a V4 poses set from Powerage and it appears to be packaged correctly for immediate install.

Within the Zip app, click on an extract button and select the primary content folder where you want the runtime to be installed. In this case, my Victoria 4 folder. The extracted runtime and the existing runtime will merge, installing all your new content into the Poser Library. Please note the destination pathway and folder selection.

If I go ahead and open Poser, I should find these poses in my Victoria 4 runtime under the poses tab.

Thanks, Hborre for taking the time to do this. Much appreciated. I tried to upzip the files with a program called the Unarchiver for Mac, but am getting a message that I can't unzip with this program. This program tends to drive me nuts, because every little thing becomes a huge deal, and I say this from know a lot of programs from all over the creative spectrum. Just not very intuitive.

I'll continue to try to figure this out. If anyone knows a good Mac program for unzipping files let me know. Thanks again...

Taomation ( ) posted Fri, 09 December 2016 at 8:58 PM

Got the archiiver to work and tried putting it in several places within the runtime and nothing is working. Very aggravating. This program drives me nuts...

Good morning friends, I'm new to daz studio. Do you know of any video where you can observe how to install files that we have bought or have achieved? Thank you

Kazam561 ( ) posted Thu, 26 January 2017 at 11:27 AM

Erwinfernando, there's a specific Daz Studio forum here listed in the forums under software.
